bts version 3.13 patch bombs

Why is it when i update from the original build of 3.0.3.1 to 3.13, i get an error message telling me i have no previous version of bts loaded at all and the installation of the patch fails completely!!!!!
Is it because my game is not on disk, but it is a download from direct2drive?

Yes I think you need to source a specific D2D 3.13 patch from their website in this instance.

I have read that there is a direct2drive version (I suppose from direct2drive). The normal (CD version) 3.13 would not work. Just as the Steam version would not.
