  • OCC Victories

So I'm playing a sort of concept game that involves doing an OCC, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to actually win the game.

There are a couple of victories that are out right from the start, such as cultural victory and domination.

Conquest seems nearly impossible given that it wouldn't be hard for several civs to gang up on me and take my one lonely city while I'm out razing.

The space race seems possible, but only if I have an incredible tech lead such that I'm not racing anyone else, because I only have one city from which to produce components.

And that leaves the two election victories - UN and Apostolic - but with so few votes to my own name, these victories seem quite hard without being very, very friendly in the diplomacy game.

A victory I'm imagining right now is an Apostolic one where I only actively spread my religion to smaller, weaker civs that I am very generous to with money, resources, and tech. And then, later in the game, I can convert a city from each of the (bigger) civs that are not of my religion and call the vote.

This way the larger civilizations have little to no voting power and the smaller civilizations should like me a whole bunch (and have more votes). Would that work?

There have been early OCC domination and conquest wins. Lots of chop + slavery + axeman, or via rushing specialized units like Quechua (pangea maps). Just saying don't throw those options out, but I agree they are less likely.

My OCC games are almost always won by Space. I find the Space victory pathway the most enjoyable.

Actually my most frequent wins were conquest at the higher difficulty levels. But those were pre bts when there was no national wonder limit.

Small maps PAGs, no early rush necessary. Out tech and destroy.

Well, I won't be going for an early military victory because it doesn't fit the concept I'm going for.

I tried this OCC last night and was tied for second in the tech race with the leader being clearly ahead.

How do I maximise science in my city when options such as Oxford and Wall Street are not available?

get lots of great scientists as soon as possible and add them to the city, and aim for representation early as well.

Why are Oxford and Wall Street unavailable?

I play on Pangea maps so I can get to everybody, both space race and conquest are available.

Did they change this in BTS? Always before any wonder with a #/build requirement was dropped to a requirement of only one building for that wonder. So Wall Street only required one bank, so long as OCC is checked.

One of the best tactics I've found is to merge every GP (except for the Academy) and use Representation. The +3 beakers per specialist really help, especially when your sitting on 10+ merged GP.

Space is always my preferred victory too, as it makes things more of a challenge.

Hmm did they change that in bts, in the warlords version you could build globe, oxford etc.

No, there is a 5 SW build limit, so you have to pick and choose and nto be greedy. So it is best to not just build all of the early ones but save spots for Oxford and NP for example.

No, I just forgot to check the OCC box. I just played normally and only built one city.

Yes that would make a difference.

Does checking OCC change anything other than letting you build buildings that would normally require more cities?

Changes the NW limit, changes the requirements for buildings to 1, and I think it may have some effect on your tech rate as well (but not sure).

It doesn't affect your tech rate. But to me that is a large part of playing OCC, playing on a small or standard with more than the normal amount of civs so that they also don't have as many cities as normal. The tech rate goes down as the map gets bigger since it is assumed that you will have more cities to make up the difference. Since you will only have one playing on a smaller map helps.
