  • 350+ % inflation ?

    Dear everyone

I am playing a multiplayer game of Beyond the Sword with a friend and 5 AI's at the moment on prince setting for both players.

I have an inflation of over 350% in the year 1975 while the other player has 121%.

What can be the reason for that? 350% really cripples the economy, I can not afford to set science to more than 30 or 40 %.

I don't think I can lower the inflation, but why is it that high in the first place?

    Are you at war?

Did your friend get the bank event?

The bank event gives -25%. He'd have to have gotten a lot of them.

I was bigger than him from the start. He had 3 cities, I had 6.

War was declared on me 3 times while he was rather peaceful. Due to vassal states I basically was at war with the whole world. I lost some cities, I won some cities. It went back and forth.

And yes, he had the bank event once, (if bank event refers to the event that lowers inflation once). But this event was only triggered one time.

I had games before where I was constantly at war, but the inflation was never that severe.

Does civilization size affect inflation percentage?

I have always thought that the inflation percentage itself always is the same regardless what the player decides to do or not to do.

That only the inflation EFFECT is greater when dealing with a larger empire, not the actual inflation percentage.

Corporations don't affect the percentage of inflation.

                  They shouldn't, I agree.

He is running a corporation, and he spread it partially to my land until I cancelled open borders.

From what I've gleaned from here the larger you are the greater your inflation, so yeh.

I could be wrong, though, but I'm fairly sure that's the case.

Then you should be pleased since they don't.

Ok, well, it was a guess. He still needs an answer to his question though.

Larger empires have greater inflation, always has been the case for civ4.

But this seems rather extreme, or am I wrong?
Is inflation increased when losing cities? Because that happened several times, though I regained them in some cases.
