  • One More Turn Strikes Again

Well, I haven't done that in a long time. I was up until 3:30 this morning play BtS. Man, I thought my civ addiction had died years ago.

    Anyways...

I'm on the latest patch (3.03?), and I've built Stonehenge which, afaik, is supposed to generate 8 culture per turn. But this particular version of the wonder appears to be generating 16 per turn. I don't mind, of course, but I kind of wonder why this is?

Any culture generating building generates 100% more culture after it's 1000 years old.

I think BtS caused a whole bunch of Civaholics to fall off the wagon again.

...I know it did for me.

Speaking of that, I thought the Civaholics Anonymous ads that they ran for their viral marketting campaign were ingenious.

Especially the guy sitting in the chair rocking back and forth hugging a pillow mumbling "Just one more turn... one more turn... just one more turn..." over and over.

          Me.

Yep, has happened to me numerous times since I got BtS. Classic 3am-4am night.

I totally just won a cultural victory (at 2:30 this morning, causing me to wake up late for work today).

Best part of the game: I was running a totally pacifistic builder civilization that, until the mid 1800's, had fought only animals and a couple barbarians. Despite this, I had plenty of city defenders (which I had been continually upgrading via my powerful economy) because I had Julius to the south.

Napoleon, who I absolutely could not get along with throughout the entire game, launches an amphibious sneak attack on one of my eastern cities (I had neglected my navy) with probably 3/4 of the units in his empire. This was about eight galleons full of knights, musketeers, and leftovers like trebuchets and the occasional warrior.

I had four riflemen with City Garrison I defending. His army died to the man (I think a few trebuchets or catapult may have retreated). I chased down the fleeing galleons with quickly purchased destroyers but the war was already over.

After two turns I went to the diplomacy screen. He offered me 130 gold and a world map - all he had. I made one more demand of him: adopt pacifism. He accepted.

I loved it. Napoleon attacks the technologically advanced but militarily pitiful army across the sea and within two turns, he's forced to adopt pacifism and go home with the few empty galleons I let survive.

Anyways. I was playing on Noble because it's been a long time since I've played civ. I think I'm going to step up the difficulty level next time. Woo civ.

i've overplayed. again. now I desire greater challenges (cause the AI is just not intelligent, difficult to beat, but completely irrational).

and there is only one challenge that can keep my interest. diplogames!

(unfortunately I'll be abandoning the current one shortly due to around-the-world travel )

Yep, got it again. The Mrs asks, "what time did you come to bed," and you hate to admit "between 2 and three in the AM" with a 6:30 wakeup for work. She mutters "that game" under her breath, and I know I've been bitten again. Great Stuff!

3 AM for me last night. I only wanted to play a few turns, just to see something...

The next thing I see is the clock showing 3 AM

Did you already beat the AI on deity?
I want to beat the BtS on Deity before I die.
I beated the warlord AI on Immortal, but still have to win my first BtS emperor game (would've won my first today were it not that hatspustsst got a non-deserved cultural victory )

I do that too! But I have different dynasties for different civs, that way i know which civ I should try.
                            I'm on 302 btw.
I'm not buying BtS until Firaxis impliments the "contiguous cultural border negates colony tax" concept.

I was thinking of an old poster in our computer lab. It had a pretty woman, dressed in a fairly sexy night-out outfit, holding flowers. She was looking, with great frustration, at a guy typing away on a computer terminal and making the "I'll be there in a second" wave-off with the other. The caption?

                              Ya, it's happened to me.
