  • Apolistic Palace Question

So, I build the apolisitc palace, being the founder of 4 religions, with confusianism (my state religion) the only one that really spread to 3-4 other nations, and the dominant religion on the planet. All my (Indian) cities have confusianism, but Ragnar is totally into confusianism too, and has more cities. I expected to be able to do all kinda nice proposals, but I don't get the chance. I get a pop up once in a while asking me to vote for something I think Ragnar has proposed. That is because he has the most Conf. cities?
When you do have most cities, how can you prompt an Apolistic vote? via the diplo menu?

Yes, you're right. Ragnar is the "Pope" because he has more Confucianist cities. If you build / conquer more cities so you're bigger than him, then you can vote yourself to be Pope.

Alternately, you can spread Confucianism to AIs who are more friendly to you than to Ragnar (shouldn't be hard, since he's so antagonistic), and they'll vote for you instead of him.

The 'pope' (AP resident) is being voted by all civs that have one of the AP-religions (confucianism in your case) in one of their cities (at least).

The more confucianistic cities you have, the more votes you get. If a civs state religion is confucianism as well, that doubles it's votes.

If Ragnar has most conf-cities, then he has most votes as well, which gives him a bigger change to become the pope. (because he's most probably going to vote for himself)
This can be solved in three ways:

      1. spread confucianism to many cities of civs who like you more (and will thus vote for you)
      2. expand your empire (by conquering or settling) and get more votes yourself
      3. Attack Ragnar and take some of his conf cities.

Thx! Well, expansion is not feasible atm, I'm stuck between Ragnar and Spain (what's her name..). Fortunately, though Spain has another state religion then me, I can count on Ragnar to attack Spain for me Spain is not pleased with having heretics on the continent, but has trouble even surviving Ragnar's troops that keep streaming through my borders towards them.

So join Ragnar in on the attack, and make sure you're positioned to take her cities after Ragnar has weakened them for you.

That usually works except sometimes all those troops wander around pillaging the area around cities that you were drooling over making you do all the heavy lifting.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Well, considering that if you could do the "heavy lifting" by yourself in the first place, it wouldn't be an issue.

Nothing worse than sitting outside a city you really want, and your ally is busy destroying all the surrounding squares right before you take it

Ming, there is something worse and I'm just going to take this thread off in a tangent.

                  It's this.
Another civ builds the Apostolic Palace before you - and they have a considerable majority, or even all, of the religion's cities inside their empire.

Result - they win the Popeship, and then claim diplomatic victory well before 1000 AD...

Situationally, the Apostolic Palace is absurdly overpowered.

That's why we have workers. Or, you could pillage it yourself first. It's not like you don't know they're going to do it.
