  • Ok so now I am over-extended

So I conquered all on my continent. I am master of the land. The problem as I was madly building units and sending them off to thier doom I was NOT watching my income.

Bleh I have no money and my tech research is at ZERO! LOL I did it to myself. I have too many cities and too many units! Should I delete some?

I am a bit too early to get markets or such and I dont even have the ability to increase my culture yet.

I just thought I would post on the dangers of excessive warmongering. Now I am at 2250 till metal casting and I am going to be easy meat for the civs on the other continent!

Whip Libraries, assign scientists, beeline Currency and Code of Laws.

And yes, delete some units. You won't be using them again anyway.

Also, build lots of cottages everywhere. Cut down forests in order to build any economic building (which includes lighthouses, graneriers, ect, as bigger cities with more people working commerce sqaures means more money).

Chop markets in your commerce cities and build 'wealth' in your crappy cities.

Whip/chop courthouses as soon as possible. Since you don't have CoL yet, do what wodan said. CoL and currency are your friends.

Delete units except those necessary to keep cities happy (1 per city at least, but perhaps more if you are running hed rule b/c you're short on happiness resources) and keep barbs under control (given your money problems, a skeleton crew of "fog busters."). And pay attention to whether or not deleting units is actually going to help your budget. Sometimes it's not unit costs at all - just city & civic upkeep.

Build cottages too, of course, but those will take some time to pay off, and you sound like you need to turn things around right now.

Another medium-term goal: if you have a religion, prioritize generating a great prophet so you can found the shrine. Then make sure you get a market up in that city asap.

One more possibility would be triggering a golden age with a great person. The GA will give you a brief boost in terms of commerce, but also a hammer boost that can be used to build things like courthouses & markets and such.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.
