  • Holy Mountain Qyp, I mean quest

After trying to resolve this quest at least a dozen times without even finding the holy mountain before someone else, I was getting fanatical about it and thought this must be the hardest quest in the game and thus should have a great payoff.

So imagine my surprise playing on a huge map that I finally managed to create enough holy buildings before it was taken. Unfortunetly it was on the other side of the world and I would have to go through three AIs. So in the spirit of the Crusades, I called my vassels and slaughtered my way across the world, making more vassels as I went. Then I ran a settler, missionary and defensemen to this barren ice spot to create a city, give it my religion and reap the benefits of following my God commands.

To only get +1 happiness was such a let down I slaughtered the rest of the world.

You can get +1 happiness or health for simple quests or even random events. For a quest as difficult as this one you deserve a better reward.

I would have probably done the same.

Was that +1 happiness in every city or just that one.

LOL - I was just as frustrated when i did the quest. I got the same lame reward, +1 happiness and ya my mountain was on a barren chunk of ice across the world. I have yet to have quest that looking back is all that worth it. except maybe the sids sushi quest.

It was +1 Happiness in all Cities

I have seen some quests worth doing. Basically any quest that has you build stuff you would have built anyway is worth doing. The ones that force you to go to war really don't seem properly balanced.

Obviously the purpose of this quest is to forge you into a tool to unleash the wrath of your god on the world.

So far I've never satisifed the condition that triguers that quest.

The only quest I was given so far was Harbor Master, but that was only given when I was three techs short of Astronemy so I figured the start timing was rather lame. I would have needed to aquire two more coastal cities to get the harbors, build caravels and NOT upgrade the ones I had to frigates.

The quests indeed are given at strange moments sometimes.
During one game I was offered the "horse whisper"-quest by the time I really only was a few turns away from completing the tech that would make me fail the quest.

The random events seems _very_ random to me.
There really should be some kind of a system in places that controls that events and quests, even if at random, still not are appearing compleately out of place.

And also that the events & quests should be adjusted depending if playing early or lategme.
A destroyed mine during early game can make a huge difference while during endgame only ensues extra micromanagement.

it seems like the hardest quests give the worst rewards, like the holy mountain and the crusade (i think the best option it gave me was spread my state religion to 5 cities.. woo).

                  Best quest for me!

The best quest I have finished is where I was tasked to build an army of (14?) swordsman. The reward was that ALL my melee units from there on started with Drill 1! Now thats a pay off and all my swords that I built for the quest got the promo right off, just in time to invade Carthage! Wooo Hooo!

That was a fun quest and a fun game!

I just had a great quest, build x libraries which I had already built x-1 of them. Then I got +2 beakers in each library. Since I build them in all my cities, that adds up.

Actually, you get +2 beakers in one library. Hardly worth it, but as you say, people build libraries anyway.

I actually have been lucky with the Holy Mountain quest every time I've gotten it.

Usually it's a mountain that's been right next to me all game and even WITHOUT finishing all the buildings I end up finishing the quest because it gets a city planted next to it without knowing.

Dang, I read it as every library. I'll have to check my rewards more carefully.

Yah, I've gotten "build 11 libraries" and "build 11 triremes", while playing landlocked OCC...

                              I agree with your point.
I had silly request as building lot of harbour when my cities are inland and most of seashore access is blocked by others civ.
Some quests are not very well explained, too: I have a quest when is request to build 10 units: I have built almost 20 of them, but I was at war and can't manage to have more than nine alive every turn

So, I satisfied the quest so far as I can understand, still I've got no prize because the real target was a little different.

The only "classic" achievement I win most of games still is circumnavigating the globe, gaining the +1 ship movement bonus (strangely enough, it seems to me that also when others, more "navy oriented" civs are in game, the AI doesn't care to use early ships advantage to obtain that bonus).
