I don't know if it's related to move or not, but there are also random events which result in a unit getting healed.

Exactly. Civ4 does NOT have any mechanisms involving "stacks". Each unit is individual and separate. The only effects from "stacks" are if one unit has an effect that modifies other units on the same tile (eg medics).

        Thanks all, very helpful.

I don't know if you could tell by my recent rash of posts, but I've decided to try to improve my game paying closer attention to the details.

Are there any other "tricks" to using medics. I recongnize the value of having a medic in a stack, and I use weak units which won't defend, but beyond that, I just put one in my attack stack and off I go. Once units need healing, they stop with the medic. Once they're healed, they all catch up again. Anyone have a more elegant way of using them?

Also -- does a having a medic in range effect how much a unit heals when it spends a promotion?

Might seem a silly question, but does Medic II heal all adjacent units (including opponents) or only yours?

Definately not opponents, it might heal other units on the same team though.
