You know, as much as the unofficial patch might solve a lot of it, some people don't like unofficial patches for various reasons. . .
Me.
People shouldn't be thinking of the patch as "unofficial". It would be more accurate to consider it a beta patch. Pretty much everything that's in there now will probably end up in the Firaxis release.

And that is the crux of the situation Willem - the use of the word "probably."
I for one, don't want to download 'unofficial' or 'beta' patches which might mess-up my files when it comes time for the 'official' patch to be incorporated...it has happened before, it will again. Heck, a few weeks back there were compatability issues with 'box' players playing against 'steam download' players. So compatiblity (for now and in the future) is always foremost in my mind.
And I (think) I am not alone in this belief.

Indeed, Solver's (main) patch only replaces the main DLL so there is no risk to using it (as long as you keep the main DLL for MP purposes). Any new patch will replace it fully anyway.

I like your SNOOPY POSTER! - While you Wait quote.
I usually play environmentalism ASAP (IMHO building units in mid game is better than worrying about health), so that makes corporations even less useful. I build monastaries and therefore put off Scientific Method, so if I have shrines, I only need a few banks, playing on a large map, I'd need a few extra just to build Wall Street until late in the game, so corporations don't make sence for me.
Well, corperations do cost a lot of money, but if you use them properly and intellegently, they're MORE then useful. I mean, you build the headquarters in your wall street city and get the gold from that, and the net cost might be something like -6 gold per city. In exchange for that, you can get like +8 hammers per city, or food, or one of the commerce ones that directly pays for itself; 95% of the time, I'd much rather have 1 hammer or 1 food then 1 gold, personally, especally as it's "1 hammer before multipliers". You probably don't usually want to put them in *all* your cities, but if you use them intellegently and such they're still WELL worth the cost, and frankly they'd often be worth the cost even if you didn't have the headquarters. And I really love the way that they make resources relevent again, late-game when everyone has 5 of everything.
The question generally isn't "do I really want a corperation?" The question is "Is the payoff of a corperation worth using a great person to get/worth changing civics for?" And that question is very much situational and game dependent. But, yeah, I love corps, and even before the patch changed inflation I thought they were well worth the cost.
FYI, the only time I've used merchant specialists was with corporations in the city (Sids Sushi). Sure the money was hit hard but the boost to food allowed me to max out ALL my specialist slots, including merchants... so it wound up paying for itself anyways.
I'm consitently stupid- Japher I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned
