  • Why are Corporations such a drain?

Doesn't it seem that the balance is set pretty hard against corporations? Surely the net gain from a corporation in taxes outweighs the maintenance cost. Shouldn't a city benefit monetarily from the precense of a global corpaoration headquarters?

Ironically religion - which is NOT taxed generates revenue, while a corporation is a drain on the economy. What am I missing?

It is ridiculous. Does anyone know where this can be fixed without installing an entire patch? Is it in an XML file somewhere?

"What am I missing." Given the other, ehm, "politics" in the game, this shouldn't be surprising.

          No kidding.

I don't want all the other stuff however, so I'd like to just fix the one thing that's important to me.

the HQ city can benefit enourmously from a global corporation, it just depends on where you spread it. in your own cities, spreading a corporation is a trade off of money for other resources. spreading it to AI cities is also a trade off- you gain money and the AI gains resources, but at the expense of their own income. you can easily burden a rival civ with huge corporate maintenances costs while raking in a fortune in your own city.

or if thats too complicated, run state property. no worries.

Yeah, I can see why fixing the espionage bugs, AI infinite loops and other botched features would be annoying!

I don't install patches when I'm in the middle of a current game. I may install it when this game is over if Firaxis hasn't released a new working patch (not 3.0.3).

Also, I'd like to know how to make the adjustments myself.

Anyone know how to do that? Is it in an XML file? If so, which one?

Solver's unofficial patch involves just the DLL file; no xml files are involved. I would conclude therefore, to make corp. costs unaffected by inflation cannot be done with xml files.

Corporations are designed to be expensive. They are supposed to be a method of trading golds for some other benefits. Solver's unofficial patch makes them somewhat less expansive.

This is quite specifically true. Corporations are not necessarily designed to gain you gold in all situations. Some are - and most corps can gain you gold if used right - but they're not just "build them and watch the gold flow in". They are a challenging game element that is intended to add spice to the later game (And thus strategy and challenge), not just another way to make money.

Solver's patch fixes the fact that corporation costs were subject to inflation but not their income, which led to the costs exploding.

In relation to fixing it with an xml file, no. Not possible, and certainly not possible within one game. You would be just as well off using Solver's patch in your current game as with changing any given xml file - solver's patch doesn't do anything more harmful to your game than an xml file change would.

You could disable inflation entirely in the xml

Its in the gameinfos(worldinfo?) file IIRC
But that file can only turn it up or down globally

If you turn off inflation globally you're opening up a world of hurt. Mostly just unspendable cash - which means you'll have insane amounts of whatever you buy with stuff.
