  • In-game text size

    Does anyone know if there is a mod to increase the size of the in-game text? I am playing on a 61 inch screen and i've tried all of the resolutions, but finally had to put it back down to 1024 x 768 just to be able to read anything at all. There don't seem to be too many good widescreen resolutions to choose from. Anyway, does anyone know if there is a mod to increase the text size and/or change the font for readability?

    How are you connecting to your monitor/TV? Since it's 61" I am guessing you have an HDTV set. Are you connecting via HDMI, DVI or VGA? While you would think that HDMI would give the best results, I get better text readability when I use the VGA connection.

    I think this is because an HD signal (either 1080 or 720) does not quite match up with typical resolutions used by computers - it's off by about 48 pixels or so.

    In any event, you can explicitly set whatever resolution you desire in your civ config file:
    C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\ and look for the shortcut labelled _Civ4config

    Scroll towards the bottom of the file and look for these lines:
    ; Custom Screen Height, ex: 768 - Normal resolutions can be set in-game and will be used when both values are set to 0
    ScreenHeight = 0

    ; Custom Screen Width, ex: 1024 - Normal resolutions can be set in-game and will be used when both values are set to 0
    ScreenWidth = 0

      VGA gets in trouble when using high resolutions. You'll get signal degradation, which is nasty. I suggest you use DVI or HDMI for such big screens. You didn't mention the screen's resolution, though. Does the screen have an insane amount of pixels, or are the pixels larger than your head?

      If you use an HD flat screen monitor or tv set, it's highly recommended you use the screen's native resolution, because that will look best. Otherwise, try to set a screen mode with small black bars to the side or top and bottom edges. That way, you'll keep the 1-on-1 pixel mapping you need to make the picture look good.
