Just outside Leiden I have whale which has been hooked up for ages. But in my city screens it does not show up. And in the trading screen Hatty is willing to trade me some since the AI says "I have 0"...

What gives? Is there a whale bug?

I checked the civilopedia and there is nothing about any tech that obsoletes whale, and also if there were then Hatty (who is just an extension of the AI in this case rather than an AI opponent) should not be able to trade it to me, should she? Obsolete resources are not available for trade as I understood it.

Well, Combustion does make whales obsolete, I think. However, you are right, if you have that tech, you shouldn't be able to trade for the resource, so something weird is going on...

When a resource is made obsolete you can no longer farm it yourself for trade (though you do get the tile bonus) but you can import it. I imagine that this is because your civ is too advanced/has laws where ivory hunting etc is illegal. I guess it's getting imported on the black market?!
