    Anyway, even if France conquered Algeria instead of founding the colony, Algeria should have resistence due to the culture of the previous owner, but not colony maintenance as it falls in the same culture bubble.

      Well, to a large extent the Romans didn't even settle the Italian penninsula; they conquered those towns and villages to expand their base.

      Most of those settlers we build are an abstraction of militarily, politically or culturally taking over someone else's (read 'barbarian') people.
