BTS - Steam - Update to Build 303

I got home from work a little while ago and started BTS via Steam.

BTS promptly started updating....

Per the About This Build Screen this is

I can confirm that this update DID NOT overwrite Solver's unofficial patch that I have installed. The filesize for that *.dll is still the same as the one I downloaded.

This appears to bundle the latest Direct X 9 version to avoid run errors.

I didn't check elsewhere to see if this patch is otherwise available outside of Steam.

Just thought I would share.

I just checked the firaxis site and the latest patch available is 3.02 as of 7PM CDT.

Steam upgrades you and you then can't play with 302 players. (All non-steam)

I was unable to join a scheduled game in which 5 people were waiting on me... they had to start a new one.

In case it wasn't clear in my other post, I'd like to reiterate how carelessly stupid this move was. It ruined my night's plans, however insignificant they may be in the so-called "big picture".

My guess is Steam released a patch before they were supposed to... there's little chance that Firaxis would release this to Steam and not on their site

Maybe we should ALL take this as an opportunity to go into Steam, and change the preferences for BTS, from Keep Always Updated, to Update Manually.

I wasn't burned this time, (and I probably won't cause I play multiplayer about once every year), but if you play MP on a regular basis, the updating should always be on your schedule and terms.

It looks like this patch doesn't really do much, either. If you have BtS working already (i.e. you have the DX update), if anything it will hinder you by killing compatibility with those who haven't patched to this version.

D2D put a patch out yesterday as well apparently, 3.03 as well... interesting.

I certainly don't think this was intentional, regardless of what a certain anti-firaxis naysayer might say. If it's a patch with only directx/microsoft compatibility, it's quite possible firaxis wasn't even involved with the patch...

Either way, 2kgames publishes these things, not firaxis, and if there were a screwup on the publishing end (as there seems to be) you'd want to look at them...

Hi I have the same issue, Steam has updated me to 303 preventing multiplay with people who dont have steam.

...Is there a simple way to undo the update?

I don't think so, no. Unless you have system restore points set up, anyway, but that's probably an overly big change

I'd wait until monday, my guess is the 'retail' update will go out then. Or at least some info should be forthcoming...
