  • "No tech brokering" - How to?

um..it´s a little bit embarresing to ask a newbie question such like this one now that I have spent almost 2 years playing civ 4 ...

The thing is that I was very happy to hear about the new option "no tech brokering" and wanted to turn this feature on in BtS.
However, when trying to start a new game the normal way I always have done in civ vanilla & warlords, I realized there was no option available for turning this feature on.
I figured out I have to go to the "custom game"-manu and start a new game from there with this setting on.
The thing is that all A.I:s are set to "noble"-difficulty and this setting cannot be changed.

I want all A.I:s to have the bonuses & settings they would as if starting a normal game on Monarch difficulty.
In custom game, I can only set my OWN difficulty level.
(witch affects my own reserach cost, upkeep cost etc..)
But if A.I at the same time is set to noble, it only uses noble setting on itself. (witch results in higher A.I research cost than a normal monarch game should provide, slower expansion, less produktion bonus, more forgiveable diplo.. less agressive etc) ... right?

I just want a plain, normal game with "no tech brokering" and monarch difficulty.

    How do I do this?
    GOWIEHOWIE! Uh...does that
    even mean anything?

nah if you set your difficulty to monarch the ai gets the same bonuses as in a normal monarch game. The difficulty setting for the ai does nothing.

      Is this so?
I was unsure about this because in a hotseat multiplayer game for instance, were you launch the game via this starting-screen also, you are able to pick different difficulties to different human players (for instance, I play at monarch level, my dad at warlord level). And then we have 5 A.I:s.
We have never been able to figure out what level the A.I actually play at.

It says Noble but what level do it really then play at?
Warlord (like me dad,), Noble (as stated) or Monarch (Like me)?
Everytime we play a multiplayer game, My dad is puzzled to realize that he always seem to easily get ahead of the A.I:s (at least when comparing scores), something he is not able to do when playing single player games at warlord level.

Thus, since the startup-seems the same as in multiplayer and A.I behaeviour in-game seems strangely idle for beeing Monarch , I wonder.
Guess I just have to play some more and test it.

The difficulty for the human player when chosen in MP is used to determine the human's difficulty penalties (ie, how many unhappy people you get, how bad inflation is). I am not sure about AIs in a MP game.

Yes, I realize this. That is also the reason why we do it.

Ok, so lets see if I understand correctly.

          - If a singleplayer game is launched through the "Custom game"-menu, then the A.I level is ALWAYS determined by the human choise of level.
(the text stating A.I is at noble level is thus just "noise" and should be ignored)

          - If a multiplayer game is launched through the "Custom game"-menu then the A.I level cannot be determined and can, in fact, not even be set.

I think mp just takes the highest human level.

If you are playing MP as a team, does individually setting the difficulty levels for the players affect anything, or is it governed by the person creating the game? We alway assumed the latter, but now I'm wondering.....

Good question on SP. Assumptions can get one in trouble, but I just "assumed" the AIs always followed suit.
