I never seem to be able to build huge stacks... there's always a new improvement that must be built...

If I'm playing on Pangea, there is only one outcome: domination or bust!

Seconded. I was used to the AI's amphibious invasions being a joke in previous civ versions. Oh, boy, Montezuma changed my mind.

He was lower on the power graph, low enough (I was number 1 BTW) that his threats of war were not taken seriously. Besides he was on a different continent. I was sure any force he'd send over would be far too weak to be a serious threat.

        I was wrong.

His first strike force had two stacks of about 8 galleons with a few frigates in each for escorts. He blew my token navy out of the water and suddenly it wasn't funny anymore. I managed to deal with the knights and crossbows he landed and even to kill a few of his ships. Byut he came back with EVEN more, this time guided with Ships of the line. I'm serious, it was like D-Day.

In my latest game i have practically no navy because i lacked iron so I couldn't build frigates. I just got iron this morning, as it was suddenly "discovered" near one of my cities. My coastal cities are now pumping out ships. Word to the wise....the AI is a lot better at amphibious invasions than it used to be.
