I try taking a look at the task manager to see processor utilization during the 15 seconds delay... sadly, the processor is 25% all the time the game is running (on a quad core, that means 100% of one of the cores).

Looks like they are not using threads for the popups

Anyone ever figure this out? Just got the game and have this slow down problem. Regular Civ 4 was fine. BTW made it slow...

Make sure you've got all the patches installed, including 3.13 and Bhruic's.

I have the same issue, I ran freeram to go through all processes, the bigger the map the worse the problem. It gets progressively worse as the game goes on, and the delay becomes intolerable. It will also stall the game at the splash screen.

FreeRam helps some, but I believe the problem is a memeory leak also. I believe it starts with the ~e5.0001 process from macrovision ltd as part of the safedisc program that is used as copy protection. I know it was used on Battlefield 2 and the Call of Duty series and some EA games, it is used on BTS also. While running the game go the task manager (ctrl-alt-del) and you will see the process running, when you check later it is still running and consuming more memory. If you run the game while you have a torrent program running you will have more crashes and slowdowns. Either way it is a slowdown process and is not harmful, just terribly performance destroying.

Clearing the temp folder before you play helps, as does a restart after turning computer off the reset the memory stack. I cant find a way to disable it though, although I am going to try cccleaner next.

Check out this link for other info with this problem (~e5):

Yes. Turn off background images during movies in your ini file. No more lag!

They're not using threads at all. Civ 4 was not optimized for dual-core, let alone quad-core. It runs strictly on a single core.

If you do have dual core, however, your computer should run civ on one, and other processes on the other. So it's not totally bad.

                    hi guys (and girls maybe),

heavy lag and blue screens for me since installing 3.13 (did not install Buick's patch). it is no system problem, I have read the above posts, and have 3 gig and nice geforce videocard, all top notch and updated, nothing special.

the longer I run the game, the slower it gets, but since 3.13 I even get blue screens. never before. restarting fixes everything, but one hour later it freezes again.

what I noticed is that the computer can no longer, or has a problem with, actually displaying the units on the screen. I can see them fall apart and disappear.

the only thing that keeps on playing is that damn music, until the blue one kicks in.

the message on the blue screen is important: a certain programm is in an infinite loop.

this to me definetely sounds like something is stuck inside there, and I think it is patch 3.13 related! and it has to do something with memory. it's like my pc has alzheimer, but as soon as I wake it up the next morning, it forgot that it got alzheimer! but then, gradually, it properly wakes up after a few coffees and remembers that it's life suc**ed (load-reload-save-load-load, etc. all day long, and nothing else than CIV!). "let's use that old alzheimer trick again and pretend that I am sick", maybe I don't have to go to work today...".

unfortunately I am the only one on this forum without a degree in ICT, so I really don't know what is going wrong

anyway, hope you liked my post, as a post, not as a real contribution to solving any problem.

                    Mc.
