  • BtS Opening Music = Torture

Hello! First time I'm posting here although I've periodically visited these forums over the last few years.

I'm actually looking for help of a more aesthetic nature than most. I don't know if it's just me, but the opening music of the menu screen for Warlords was bland to me and for Beyond the Sword its just flat out wretched. I think I actually have a bit of a tick going when I'm trying to choose my game options. You know its bad when you turn off your speakers while deciding what civilization to play for another game.

It's so terrible to me that I would love it if there were a way to make the original opening music play. So much more effort went into the score for the original game's opening - one of my greatest disappointments is that it was replaced.

If there is a setting change I can make somehow (I seem to remember being able to do something with Civ3 for a similar issue) I'd be very thankful for the help!

    Cheers

There is! Just look in the options.

And I love Firaxis for including it... "baba yetu yetu...." weeee!!!

It's under 'Graphics' - 'Opening Menu', choose 'Civilization IV'

I actually kind of like it. Much better than I did Warlords, and I wasn't really a big fan of baba yetu

Wow I completely missed that new drop down button. Thanks!

I guess even the developers hated the music! LoL.

        Thanks again!

Altough I have music turned off in my game, it's great having that globe screen back again.

I like all 3 three menu screens and music. The civ4 one is my favorite though

I haven't particularly liked a Civ theme since Civ2. Baba Yetu....more like babbling Yeti!

Baba Yetu always made me giggle a bit, but I like this opener better

As for screens.. Blue Marble's shuttle! hehe

I very much like the new music that goes with the BTS Classic screen (much nicer than the techy default screen). Matches the florentine mood of the cathedral very nicely I think and I for one was never a fan of the Enya-esque baba yetu....

I like the new opening screen much better than the one from Warlords, so I didn't replace it yet. It's very nice to have the choice, though.

A somewhat related question: Was the opening narration ("In the beginning ...") dropped from "Beyond the Sword"? If not, could I have turned it off by accident?

If you press escape to skip the videos at the beginning, the "in the beginning" sequence will get skipped.

Just discovered you can put another Mp3 file into the /assets/soundtrack directory and set the menu to play that in the AudioDefine.xml file.

Also, you can add other songs to each era (or remove some) with some xml editing. I added 8 songs to the ancient period (4 just ambiant wilderness sounds plus a cool rainstorm).

                            The files you need are:

Civ4EraInfos - Tells Civ4 how many and what songs are in each era with text key names [i.e. "AS2D_ANCIENT_SOUNDTRACK_1"]
Audio2DScripts - tells civ4 what text keys match with what text string, also can set the song volumes here [default is 70]
AudioDefines - the text string is associated with what .mp3 file

In Audio2DScripts, you can also turn down the volume on some of the diplomacy screens. Ever noticed how Shaka is really loud (volume 75) while Toky is quite (volume 55)? Here's where to fix it.

Aha, I'll try that next weekend. Thank you! I hope to use this to add some civ-specific music to the lists. In my next BtS game, I plan to play the Dutch, so maybe I can find a nice mp3 recording of "Wilhelmus" somewhere.
