Final Frontier multiplayer problem

After the lobby, my friend and I are getting hung up on the initializing progress screen where the bar hangs at about 1/4 of the way. Settings are Team Game with 6 AIs all other options default.

We tried waiting it out for several minutes, no go.
Mutliplayer BtS works fine. Firewall is open and works.

Anyone else try a team game with final frontier?

More info. Multiplayer works, when the human players are not on the same team. Only when they are on the same team does initialization hang up.
