I installed the new DirectX before even dling the patches. But I definitely agree the game should detect the version of DirectX and simply give you a message rather than crash or have seemingly unrelated problems. In programming lingo, it needs what's called an "elegant close".

It does, however, work if you update DirectX. Just try some 10-15 times to download, as I did.

Do you know that if you don't live in USA, UK or Canada you CAN NOT buy BtS from direct2drive? Or Civ IV, or Warlords. "Due to country location restrictions". I wonder if this is a Firaxis thing...

All this seems to be something concerning anti-piracy policies... I've pre-ordered it (two copies!) from CD universe... But I'll be able to play the game only in four or five days after the release, more likely one week... So, I tried to buy it from Direct2Drive, to play it until the package (two copies of the CD version) comes to me. Useless.
What really makes me mad is that I am an anti-pirate (all my software, in all my FOUR computers is official and legitimate… I mean, 3 copies of Photoshop, 3 Windows XP and 1 Vista, three copies of Painter, from Corel, two copies of Thumbplus, three licenses of Office 2003)… A lot of money. The other computer is running free software similar to Office, and I don’t use this one to perform graphic work. I don’t do things like use pirate software. And guess who is punished for that? Me. Myself. I.
Or maybe I’m being punished because I’m an idiot... Who else would buy 2 copies of a game? In fact, three.

I've identified one situation in which Blake's post-2.08 "Better AI" isn't present in Warlords 2.13. Here's a description of the improvement:

Hi Blake. I loaded your mod and can report a definite improvement in worker behavior.

Prior situation: Great Wall is built. Worker is inside the wall, Barbarian is outside, but adjacent to the worker. The worker would stop whatever it was doing. However, the worker could not be attacked by the Barb due to the GW.

Now, in the above situation, the worker continues with its action and ignores the Barb.

After installing 2.13, the workers revert back to their prior behavior and now no longer ignore barbs after the Great Wall has been built.

If I install 1,74 on top of vanilla will it screw up the install of BtS (which should happen Sunday night assuming delivery from Amazon, my flights home and back here not being cancelled, and my PC not discombooberating in the few intervening days)? Vice versa will BtS automatically update vanilla?

Much to the chagrin of C4DG players, it does seem that BTS will automatically update vanilla civ when you install.

I don't know if this will have any negative consequences if you've already patched vanilla yourself, but I would imagine not; it would be horribly clumsy of Firaxis if it did.

I can't reinstall Warlords...I can't find any way to uninstall it...

Problem solved...third party uninstaller got it out and when I reinstalled, everything worked well.

Well, I have a new PC that come with Vista Home Premium installed.

I'm moving my favourite programs and games from the old to the new PC, and when I installed Civ IV vanilla, then Civ IV Warlords with previus patch everythings seems OK.

Now I've added the new patch, but I haven't installed the new DirectX 9.0c because I already have DirectX 10 in Windows Vista, and I think installing 9.0c will mess up the O.S.

Now Vanilla nor Warlords doesn't start anymore!

I'm not at home now, so I can't check the exact error I get.

I've already bought Civ 4 BTS, installed it and I can play with it, but I think it's silly I can't be able to run old Warlord, just to finish my saved game.

Any suggestion to restore correct Warlords, while keeping the new BTS expansion available, will be welcome. Thank you in advance.

"GNP graph shows total commerce generated, not only raw commerce"

I suppose that means that having a bank will increase your "raw" GNP value of 10 to a "total" GNP of 15. Does it work the same for the research part, for instance, if you have an academy and how is it counted?

When I install v 1.74 patch I get the dreaded Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product etc
Then it quits immediately and says update complete and it wont uninstall properly in Add Remove Programs
Helps?
