The Road to War: Information Thread!

Welcome to The Road to War! The World War II mod for Sid Meiers Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword.

Please read through this thread to keep up to date with new developments for the mod.

    History:

The Road to War as released in Beyond the Sword is the culmination of 12 months work by a dedicated team of fans. The mod is designed and coded by Dale Kent with graphics and movies by GarretSidzaka of CivFanatics and Hexagonia of Apolyton. The mod also makes use of various unit artwork from CivFanatics unit makers.

    Official Web Site:

The official web site is hosted by Apolyton Civilization Site at: http://rtw.apolyton.net

The latest update of the web site was: 30 July 2007.

    Add-On Pack 1 Details:

Add-On Pack 1 is currently in development. The pack's features will include:

    - All nations playable on all maps
    - Multiplay enabled
    - New Intro Movie
    - Cutscenes for the major events
    - More nations and leaders (in support of future scenarios)
    - New units (Code Breakers, Anti Tank Guns & Tank Destroyers)
    - Bugfixes

See this thread for details: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...hreadid=168701

    Known Bugs:

    1. Spy bug: Confirmed.
Unable to perform any active espionage missions using spies as reports "Visible by #####". This is fixed in Add-On Pack 1.

    2. No oil for UK: Confirmed.
Reported that UK has no access to oil on the home islands. Oil is available in UK held middle east. This is fixed in Add-On Pack 1.

    3. PRC vs KMT: Confirmed.
Not exactly a bug, but the Kuomintang was in control of China during the war, not the Communists. This is fixed in Add-On Pack 1.

    4. FW-190 before BF-109: Confirmed.
These two units need to be swapped so the FW-190 comes after the BF-109. This is fixed in Add-On Pack 1.

    5. Chairman "Zedong": Confirmed.
Should be "Mao". This is fixed in Add-On Pack 1.

    6. AA not intercepting: Confirmed.
AA do not intercept, and do not have an intercept button. This is fixed in Add-On Pack 1.

Please report all Road to War bugs in this thread. Please do NOT report general BtS bugs in this thread.

    Easter Eggs:

Some of the debug codes were left in the mod as they can enhance the player's enjoyment.

    - CTRL+SHIFT+Z: If you have any allies, you can change to one of them. Only possible once per game.
    - CTRL+SHIFT+X: Give control of your nation to the AI for 5 turns.
    - CTRL+SHIFT+C: Give control of your nation to the AI for 50 turns.
    - CTRL+SHIFT+V: Give control of your nation to the AI for 100 turns.
    - CTRL+SHIFT+B: Give control of your nation to the AI for 200 turns.
    - CTRL+SHIFT+N: Give control of your nation to the AI for 300 turns.

    Closing:

I sincerely hope you enjoy The Road to War! If you have any suggestions, comments or anything else please feel free to post them.

I will continue to support and develop new content for the mod, so do not think your voice is not heard (though sometimes it can take me a little while to acknowledge your comments ).

    Thanks and happy civing!

        Hello Dale,

I just want to say thanks for this wonderful scenario, the only problem is that it is not possible to play in this moment by Pmbe or Multiplayer, will you make a patch to play with it by ww2? Where will I be able to download it? Because I played this weekend and I liked it a lot.
Could you also tell me. having my Civ.4 Spanish version, if I will be have problems with some packs?

        Thanks a lot

Welcome to RtW Niessuh & Amilca.

          Glad you're liking it.

Multiplayer and PBEM will be enabled in the add-on pack. I'm still working on it, but it will be out soon (next couple of weeks hopefully).

You shouldn't have any problems with non-English versions (though only knowing English the new texts will be in English for you). I hope that won't cause any language problems. Otherwise, I welcome any volunteers to do text translations to other languages.

              Greetings,

This is my first post here! I am totally in love with RtW. I can't wait for the pack with all of the UU graphics. Was really disappointed that Firaxis axed those...

              Couple of things.
              1. I had to change the color of Germany since the gray and white of England were a bit confusing.
              2. How do AA guns work? I see that they have a area of effect graphic, but the only two options for them seem to be sleep and skip turn? I don't think they do anything while asleep, and skiping them every turn is a PiTA. I'm hoping I just don't understand them yet. I played france, and had 8 guns total and never saw a message relating to them or had one promote, so I don't know if they are doing anything or not. I did notice that my interceptors seemed to get shot down a lot more when i had them sleeping though.

              Thanks for a GREAT Mod....

                Hi Vos,

                Glad you're enjoying it.

Don't put your intercepters (fighters) in sleep mode. If you don't use them in a mission, then put then in interception mode. This will ensure air-defense. If they're in sleep mode they won't intercept.

Thanks for pointing out the AA, I'll check it out.

                  Thanks Dale,

Ah, I misspoke in my post, I was referring to my interceptors getting shot down more when the AA guns were sleeping not the interceptors sleeping. I was using the intercept mode correctly for the fighters, seems intuitive and well designed. But it also seems the AA guns should have either a intercept button like the fighters or a sentry button.

Btw Germany is sure a tough nut to crack when they overrun the soviets in early 1942

I don't know if this is possible, but these massive air battles overload the information text box, so that I only seem to catch about 20% of the info. Is there not a way to add a scroll bar to that box? I imagine that would require a change to the interface by Firaxis, but I'm totally new to mods in Civ 4. The ultimate solution might be a log file opened on a second window/monitor that auto updates... hmm I'll look into that too.

There's a button to the left of the info pane (looks like quill and paper) that open all sorts of logs (event, general, combat, etc).

I've never used that. I always use Ctrl-Tab -- the keyboard shortcut -- instead.

                        Even'n Dale!

This is my first post and I have a few questions and suggestions...

                        Questions:
                        1) When will the add-on be ready for release? Also, how many add-ons will there be and could maybe tell us a bit about each?
                        2) When you say "New Leaders" do you mean new ones for existing Civs?
                        3) I know that you must be sick of being asked this question, but will Adolf be in the new add-on?
                        4) Will you need to download the previous add-on to make the new one work? E.g Add-on 2 will only work if you have Add-on 1.
                        5) Will you making any new scenarios about famous battles of WW2? The Battle of Berlin maybe?
                        6) Will it be possible to have more than 18 Civ's in your World map?

                        Suggestions:
                        1) Maybe you could add Unique Units for the Minor Civs.
                        2) This might have already of been implicated (I forget easily,) could you make the Allies and Axis's units look different, like in the normal game.
                        3) Could you post a link to this thread in your official site.

Thank you for taking the time reading this.

Finaly, I'll try and guess the nations based on the flags: Great Britian, France, USA, Germany (of course), Italy, Japan, China, USSR, Denmark, Norway, Australia, Poland, Ireland (maybe), Spain, Finland, Canada, Egypt, Turkey, Portugal and Bulgaria. That's all I can figure out. Only 9 left...
"How many Stalins does it take to defeat an Isabelle? Not Many.
"Civilisation, eh? Well you got to start somewhere."

Welcome to Poly, and welcome to RtW.

                            Questions:
                            1) When will the add-on be ready for release? Also, how many add-ons will there be and could maybe tell us a bit about each?
The pack should be out in a couple of weeks. A beta will be out earlier of course. At this point, there is plans for 2 packs, but you never can tell eh?

                            2) When you say "New Leaders" do you mean new ones for existing Civs?
Hitler and Hirohito will be added, as well as new leaders for the new civs. They've been added in to support future scenarios.

                            3) I know that you must be sick of being asked this question, but will Adolf be in the new add-on?
                            Yes

                            4) Will you need to download the previous add-on to make the new one work? E.g Add-on 2 will only work if you have Add-on 1.
Yes, future packs will need the preceeding ones.

                            5) Will you making any new scenarios about famous battles of WW2? The Battle of Berlin maybe?
I've ideas for a few scenarios/battles, but suggest away.

                            6) Will it be possible to have more than 18 Civ's in your World map?
There will be 36 civs in the world map.

                            Suggestions:
                            1) Maybe you could add Unique Units for the Minor Civs.
Unfortunately this'll make too many units, it'll severely affect performance.

                            2) This might have already of been implicated (I forget easily,) could you make the Allies and Axis's units look different, like in the normal game.
UU graphics which will be in pack 1 will help this.

                            3) Could you post a link to this thread in your official site.
Good idea, I shoulda thought of that.
