  • I have not played for a while.... Question about Nukes

    Hello

I stopped playing Civ many months back as my games were spoilt during the end game, as trigger happy AI civs would launch an all out nuclear strike (sometimes 30+ nukes) against any newly formed Barbarian cities. This leads to major global warming issues

I always play on mega-huge maps, which leaves a large amount of icey terrain, which tend not to be settled, which is where the barby cities appear.

Does anyone here know if this problem still exists?

I am looking forward to the xp, and am wondering if I should spend too much time modding the map sizes if the world is going to be turned into a desert by the time my super-cyborg army are built.

The issue of AIs nuking Barbarians was fixed in the Warlords patch.

AIs never launch nukes at anyone, right?

This is hardly the case. Backed into a corner, an AI with nukes will launch against the aggressor's cities.

          As should be.
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

            Oh, right.

I dont think I played it with a patch, but checking I see a mega 60mb download (well mega for a game made up of lots of text files...)

Is it worth me downloading this patch if I am going to get the new xp?

Well, is downloading a problem for you in some way (limited bandwidth / per-megabyte costs)? If not, do download. Of course, BtS is almost here, so if you aren't going to play until then, you shouldn't care

I suppose Company of Heroes can tie me over for 2 more days.

I am looking forward to spending the best part of a week or two playing a single game of civ.

I was just wondering if the patched version of the first xp will affect the second.... Although with civ 3 I remember the second xp had all the stuff from the first xp (I cant remember their names) in it anyway.

I've only seen the AI launch one nuke in all the games I've played. I don't build any nukes myself as the AI never builds them, it would feel like cheating if I did
This space is empty... or is it?

I never take that chance. If someone builds the Manhattan project, I'll prioritize some nukes just in case.

"my words are backed with nuclear weapons." Always the best approach once the Manhattan Project is built.

COH was one of those games that I really wanted to like, but was turned off by.

There are many points to capture and hold, and the AI constantly pops up to grab any you may leave unguarded. In the campaign, they come at you from all different directions - it's nerve wracking. I always compare COH to the experience of going to the pool with several little kids - it's constantly "look over here!", "No, watch ME!", "No, over here, over HERE!"

The graphics are terrific, but if ever software was designed specifically to destroy someone's attention span, this is it.

I think I'll stick with Battlefront's Combat Mission and its expansions for my tactical WWII gaming.

                          COH is anti-civ.

I dont ever remember panicing over a game of civ. You do have to have your wits about you in a few of the campaign games. Defending that hill for the first time is what stress is all about.

None of that in Civ. Its far more.... civilised
