Warlords - CTD on starting new game

I purchased Civilization 4 - Warlords today, and it won't run. Every time I try to start a new game, the progress bar goes about halfway through, then the game crashes to desktop. I've installed the newest patch and the latest video card drivers. Before the installation of Warlords, the basic Civ 4 was working fine, so whatever causes the problem was obviously brought by Warlords - now even the basic game doesn't work anymore.

System specs:

Celeron 2.8 GHz
1 Gb RAM
GeForce 6600GT (driver version 94.24)
Windows XP Professional + SP2

The "detailed information" about the crash says:

EventType:InPageError P1:c000009c P2:00000003

I strongly suspect that the error is video card related, but I haven't found a way around it. Any help would be much appreciated.

Following the suggestions at the thread you linked to, I did a hard drive scan last night. I just tried starting the game again - and lo and behold, it works!!! I didn't even need to reinstall. Thank you very much, I never would have thought the problem was related to the hard drive.

Good to hear. Is this what you did?

From the Start menu, select Run.
In the Open field, type sfc /scannow (Note: There is a space between sfc and /scannow)
Select the OK button.
Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.
Reboot the computer when System File Checker completes.
