    Re: Civ IV...weird AI

Damaged unit's base combat factors are half way between their max strength and their current actual strength and so their performance decreases exponeticly as they get damaged.

As to why you were attacked; it wasn't because of the relations but because of your very much underdefended town. (By the way, Marines are much better offensive units than defensive units; their purpose is both amphious attacks and knocking out machine gun implacements.)

Last Civ I played was Civ II but I know a little about the third Civ.

started a game in Civ IV on warlord difficulty acting peaceful and tried to expand. I liked the idea with winning without killing all or spaceship. At 1700 first friendly nation attacked me (+8 rating but attack right away). started military production and get 3 marines in my capital . AI attacks with 4 kavaly and chariots. 4 kavallery killed 1 marine, its okay ((marines have garison II+80% town defnese). Then chariots incoming kill 2 marine units and capture

    WTF???

    what happen to Civ IV?
Just removed the game and being quite frustrated....

last game they attacked my invasion forces, but I had such overwhelming numbers they couldn't do much. The goal was to conquer 6 cities in 2 turns, and I did it. I wanted all the religion and wonder cities to be in my possession when I hit 64% land area for the domination win. and I succeeded. Highest score ever. I think I'm ready to move up a difficulty level now. Though last 2 games I've been blessed with peaceful civs as my neigbors, they are easy to roll over.

Tanks took 2 cities near my borders, and another force of tanks moved withing striking range of a third city the first turn. I also landed 2 invasion forces of 12 tanks each using 6 transports next to his capitol and a nearby city with a religion in it.

It was interesting to figure out what he would strike at with such overwhelming numbers in his territory. He chose to focus most of his attacks to my stack near the city near his capitol. I had 12 tanks. but China being peaceful didn't have much. He attacked with 2 artillery and 2 cannons. Luckily with fighter (from carrier) and battleship support I was able to take the city. I was facing infantry as defenders. He had some cavalry, but chose to attack my line of gunships I had created (I wanted to protect and distract from a lightly defended city I had on his borders withing reach). It was a line consisting of a single unit on each square. I think that divided his forces as well.

I've gone pretty much full circle and decided that tanks are totally inappropriate for taking cities (and the City Raider promotion), so I transfered that promotion (and the AI strategy) from armored units to gunpowder units.
