  • Request to change the American banner

    The flag of Somalia:

    The American banner in Civ4:

Could we please get a new American banner. Is this Firaxis's method Bush-Bashing, showing America's symbol as the symbol of state in contant of constant war.
USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!

The idea might be an immediately recognisable symbol.

When I see a white star on blue background, my mind does not immediately go to Somalia.

Maybe you should sue Somalia to make them stop trying to filch one of your national symbols. You could refer to them as FCPKTUWSOBB (Former Colonial Possession Known To Usurp White Star On Blue Background) and get the UN to formally make this their accepted name.

      nah...

I think it is good to have more african civs in the game.

Firaxis, please don't change the banner.
Change the name of the civ to Somalia instead.

I can't see why people are so upset with having the Americans in, but want obscure "civs" in.

People need someone to hate so they hate decadent american rock n roll sinners

I honestyly think America is in because of what we have accomplished, plus its like throwing a bone to us, where they game is marketed

maybe they use the single star because the flag resolution isn't good enough to show the full stars and stripes. In any case, I'm sure there are other more unambiguous US symbols. What about a simplified presidential seal?

A red-white striped banner would be simpler.

An Eagle would be good since the 2 other civs in the game that have used the single headed Eagle as their symbol are Rome and Germany. Rome uses the leaf crown thing which I forget the of. Germany uses the Iron Cross. That leaves the Eagle for America.

Many U.S. military vehicles in World War II used a single white star to reflect their nationality. Couple that with the background for the stars on the American flag, and a white star on a blue banner is an excellent fit for the American banner in Civ. A simple fix for the Somali similarity would be to change the background to a darker blue.

True, but they probably had the lighter blue field for the star to match the American culture border color. That shade of blue is currently owned by the French.

Why not just use a dollar sign? It's recognizable.

Then what if the French and American flags switched background colors?
