  • Crazy Win

I play random and had the craziest win ever. 6 turns into my game. It popped up and said I won a conquest victory. A little investigation showed that it was a duel and an animal killed my opponents settler. Fastest bloodless conquest ever.

Hmmm... an AI settler that hadn't settled in 5 turns... The land must have REALLY sucked

Actually, it got killed in the second turn or third turn. It must take the AI a while to realize that since you are the only player, it must be a conquest victory.

I've never run across the AI not knowing when a conquest victory had occured. It always gives you credit on the start of the next turn.

I've had it happen before when I won a conquest victory due to barbarians killing the last city, and I was not at war. My guess is since I did not kill the last city, it doesn't trigger the victory automatically.

That is indeed a crazy win. The game must not check for victory conditions to be met each and every turn. Sounds like a minor bug though.

Either that or he played with the option that says every unit from a Civ must be killed in order to eliminate that Civ and that "other" unit was killed shortly after, in turn 5.

I do not use the option to have to track down and kill everyone. However, that would have been funnier. I may have made it to the middle ages before I realized there was no competitors.

The most interesting victory I've gotten was when me and Russia was going for a cultural victory. I chose to go for that victory when I got a holy city, unfortunately for me, that was the only religion I got for quite some time... Russia got most of the other holy cities
As soon as I got more religions I spread them as fast as I could, but I was way behind in culture. The only way to win was by destroying Russia. They only had 4 cities, but they had a descent military. I could have taken them out if it wasn't for the fact that they had a defense pact with the strongest civ in the game, who also happened to be on an island nearby. Attacking Russia would be suicide
Lucky me Russia was dumb enough to attack a nearby weak civ, who also had a defense pact with the strongest civ, who quickly took one of Russia's cities (the one with the least culture), my military forces quickly joined the war and destroyed the second most cultural Russian city... Now Russia has no more chance to win the game. I just had to stay at peace with everybody, then I could win too. I was attacked late in the game, lucky me it was too late to stop me from winning
This space is empty... or is it?

                    Mike,

What sort of score did the game give you?

I know the quicker you win, the higher your score. However, without tech, or citys for that matter I imagine it hurt your score as well.

I was playing Prince, normal speed. The game finished in 3560 with a score of 24 normalized to 12241.

Pretty high score for not having a single tech.

AFAIK, the AI settles wherever they start. I've seen the AI settle in on an area completly of ice and without resources.

Indeed, AI settlers are hardcoded to always found a city when the civ has currently zero cities.
