  • Wonder Acquisition (through city conquer) Question: No Culture?

Hopefully an easy question (with a simple explanation provided by a knowledgeable responder):

Is there a bug with Civ4 Vanilla (v1.61) wherein the conquering civilization of a particular city does NOT get the culture benefits of a World Wonder once the city "revolution" period has ended?

This has happened a couple of times for me. The latest instance was that I conquered Madrid from Isabella. It contained Versailles (with its indicated "reduced city maintenance" feature, 10 culture points and GP points). However after the subsequent post-conquer city revolution period, I've never had any of the 10 culture points allotted to the city expansion. Is this normal? (I have researched Divine Right so that shouldn't be a contributing problem.)

Is there a specific period of time that must elapse before the culture benefits from this World Wonder start being accrued?

Are there other Wonders that when conquered do not yield the indicated benefits (culture points, extra specialists, reduced cost %s)?

Are the benefits only useful to the original producer (and not any subsequent conquerors)?

I'm pretty sure I've run into this with other World (not National) Wonders where either I don't get the benefits or culture points due upon conquering...whereas others, like the Pyramids or Holy Shrine, I get immediately upon the city revolution period expiring.

    Advice or comments welcome.

When you capture a city all of the culture producing buildings are destroyed except wonders. The wonders keep their main benefits (like the reduced city maintainence for Versailles) but don't produce culture. I guess it's supposed to show that the building is still part of the culture of civ that created it.

It took me a long time to figure that out.

As a sidenote, Academies aren't destroyed either, but they no longer produce any culture.

Thanks for the quick responses and extra info. Well, you confirmed what I've been seeing (but wasn't too sure if this was an anomaly to v1.61 or not).

So much for the "expand the cultural borders quickly with a captured Versailles/SoL/Great Library"!

No, you expand cultural borders quickly by producing culture. That's what the music tech is for.

Yes, that doesn't quite work as advertised. Although if the wonder grants free specialists, or you're in the appropriate civic, you can pop the cultural borders that way.

It’s a fair deal really. In fact, you should be lucky that the wonders don’t add to the already significant foreign culture and force a city-flip against the thieves and robbers who stole it and back to its former rightful owners

Funny that I never feel all that guilty when I capture a wonder
