I´d like to have predictable random events. I think it´s even okey that events are inbalancing at times, just as long as they make sence.
I'd like to see random events come with a likeability modifier. When a tsunami comes and destroys one of your cities you should get a "+3 You have our condolences on that horrible disaster" from any civ that doesn't hate you. This might let you ask for money or techs to help rebuild from the disaster. You might even use it to start trading with someone and this might cement a friendship that lasts long after the disaster.
Of course you could also get "-1 The gods have punished you. We must spread the true faith to prevent more disasters" (I imagine most human players would see an event hurting the AI this way )
In fact there could be random events that only affect diplomacy. Royal union wedding could improve relations while an assassinated diplomat would hurt. These would just be temporary bumps, but could open the door for more. Adding a little randomness to the diplomacy would be a good thing. I want the occasional chance to talk to Toku and try to be friends...
...
Then of course, according to the press releases, "pleas for help" and "demands from citizens" will be in. I'm curious what specific pleas and demands there will be. I wonder if it'll be like a Community Chest card from Monopoly (i.e. totally random), or if it'll be more like a scripted event where "if X and Y are true then Z will happen".
- Note: apparently you can't use angled brackets in messages

Tasty Barbarians, the fodder with which my troops improve skill and accuracy upon!
First Master, Banan-Abbot of the Nana-stary, and Arch-Nan of the Order of the Sacred Banana.
Marathon, the reason my friends and I have been playing the same hotseat game since 2006...
Jaybe, during a single game of EU I might see the same event three times or more (some games can be long).
I hope Firaxis takes the tack that 'less is more'. Random events can add fun and spice if implemented in a prudent way.

Makes sense that the "pleas for help" and "demands from citizens" may be as a result of certain events. I'm sorry I overlooked this post before, Xorbon. I read it when I was much too overtired.

This is true, but woe betide the player who allows himself to fall behind the curve and fails to get units out to light up the map, develop archers to defend his cities, and produce enough chariots to deal with the improvement-smashing axemen that inevitably come calling.
And when those uncivilized savages march past your neighbor's cities and farms in favor of pillaging yours, it's enough to tick you off.

That's ok. I'm used to people ignoring me, not hearing me, skipping past my ideas, etc.
Just kidding. I was just reposting what I wrote because the '<' and '>' I used in the first post made part of it not show up. Apparently those symbols get treated as tag delimiters.
