  • Anyone else have an issue where leader screens slow the game down, later in game?

Not sure if this is the right forum, I looked in the help forum but didn't see anything there for this...

Basically my problem is this: The game runs smoothly which is fine, then in the final 2/5ths or so of the game, anytime a foreign leader contacts me, the screen with their portrait comes up, and the blue boxes on either side come up...but there's no writing in the boxes, none in the dialog box below their picture, and the leader isn't moving. After a couple minutes the deal they're proposing suddenly shows up like normal, and the animation for the leader actually starts moving like normal. WTF is up with this?? It doesn't happen early in the game, and it's not a hardware issue.

Probably just too much going on for your system. Later in the game, nearly every tile has animations. I've found it helps imensely to simply freeze the animations, myself. Try that first, and see if it helps. You don't REALLY need to see every mine having a cart going in and out, every windmill spinning around, etc, etc. Then the game tries to load a leader animation on top of all that, (since the damn screen is transparant, so that all keeps going on) you get a bind up.

I used to have that problem until I upgraded my video card. Try turning down your settings or play on a smaller map.

Freezing animations doesn't effect the leaderheads.

it's a 7800 GS, it's definitely not from the video card needing to be upgraded.

also, freezing animations only pauses unit animations, not stuff ON the map.

Here's the weird thing, let's say someone cancels 4 deals with me at once, well the first deal, it takes forever to load the leader screen...then the next 3 go at normal speed...odd

Freeze animations halts both unit and improvement animations, it even says so if you hover over the option, the only thing it does not effect is rivers and smoke as far as I can tell. So, yes, some workhouses or something might still show some smoke, but your ponies won't fidget, windmills won't twirl, etc.

Perhaps, I've had it off so long, I wouldn't know.
