Civ has so many memory leaks that I find that when it starts getting sluggish, all I have to do is shut down the application and restart it, and it runs fine.
This is especially effective in MP game after playing for a few hours.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

But as you say - I take a break anyway. But you may have lost a lot of play time - depending on when you last saved.

      What about Autosave?

I did not mean to imply that it was a widespread problem, sorry if I gave that impression.

Let me try to clarrify what I am saying.

The Memory Allocation Failure (MAF) only occurrs on HUGE maps and only after about 600 turns on high res. graphics. Turning down to low res. delays it for longer.

It is not widespread because it occurs more often on Mods. than in the basic game. This is probably due to the fact Mods. have more units/buildings/graphics etc.

The MAF only occurs when saving - normal or autosave. You get a popup error message telling you the save has not been done. Clicking on the popup closes down Warlords.

The majority of posts reporting the error (probably over at CFC) were made before the last patch. As the patch did not resolve the problem, players either stopped playing on huge maps or continued playing, putting up with the inconvieniance.

There was no point in posting it as a bug again, as Firaxis already knew about the problem, but did not fix it.

I've never had a problem with the autosave, even when I was saving every turn. And I always play Huge maps, which by Harrier's implication would mean that I should have had at least one incidence of this problem, though I never have. So it seems to me that it has something to do with the mods and is not an actual bug in the game.

That is the position that Firaxis took.

"If it appears to be only happening with mods - it is not our problem."

Yet the mods were based on their game engine and had nothing to do with the save game routines.

            A similar situation is this:

You stay at a hotel with a swimming pool. The hotel owner says "There is the pool - but if you use it and drown - that is your fault"

In most countries today that would be considered illegal.

Although I don't really use mods that are posted on the forums, I do have a number of altered XML/Python files that I've changed myself. Plus I'm using Blake's custom CoreDLL. Yet even still, I've never encountered the problem you mentioned. So obviously it means that only some mods are affected, and that the error is in them, not in the game. If you're encountering this, then you should inform the mod maker, as there must be a problem that they've overlooked and need to fix.

The mod makers have repeatedly reported this problem to Firaxis. I do not need to tell them about it as they already know about it.

As I said previously, it is probably because the mods use more of every thing. More units, buildings, civics, graphics etc. etc.

But all is not lost as someone is working on the problem - not from Firaxis but another player/modder like us.
