  • goody huts

This question has probably already been answered, but I will ask again anyway.

I happened upon an untouched goody hut guarded by a barbarian warrior at about 1650 a.d. !!

I was playing an island game with very many small islands.

For kicks and giggles I saved my game and tried to get the goody hut to give me a technology by reloading and reloading time and again.

After about an hour and a half I gave up and settled for the warrior it gave me.

I couldn't get it to offer anything but money or a scout or a warrior or a map or more hostile barbarian warriors.

Will goody huts give up techs that late in the game?

I think that the best tech I've ever gotten out of a goody hut was horseback riding... though I'm not quite sure; it may be that I got metal casting once. When playing a terra map, you tend to find goody huts in the latter game on th unexplored continent, and from them, I've never gotten a tech.

It seems to me that there's some max tech (perhaps it's determined by some limit as to how many beakers the tech can cost?) above which you can't get anything from a goody hut. Don't know where the limit is though, nor whether the limit is the same for all difficulty levels.... who knows, maybe on settler you can find rocketry in a tribal village.
Only the most intelligent, handsome/beautiful denizens of apolyton may join the game :)

Someone on here once got Astronomy from a goody hut.

I believe the XML files specify which techs can be learned from goody huts and which can't.
Participating in my threads is mandatory. Those who do not do so will be forced, in their next game, to play a power directly between Catherine and Montezuma.

I thought goody huts granting technologies once you had got certain technologies. I find it hard to believe that someone could have got astronomy from a hut...

Technically, I think it's possible to get a tech later, but very rare. It might have something to the XML files, like Jack Rudd was saying. The latest I've ever received a goody hut tech was Metal Casting.

No. After a certain era, you won't get any more techs out of them. I believe it's the Classical era, though I'm not positive about that. It's fairly early in the game at any rate, so I can't see anyone getting Astronomy.

Thanks for the heads up guys.

I'm glad I gave up then.

I don't know what I really expected them to give me ( I think I already had astronomy, although if I found rocketry I would have had to post that screenshot here so I could be immortalized and idolized by the millions of Apolyton subscribers World Wide!! )

I actually got Astronomy once from a Goody Hut a couple of weeks ago.

I have no idea how it happened though, because I didn't see it as one of the options in the xml file.

Maybe there's a wildcard or something that I missed in the xml.

Another post mentioned that Astronomy and Music are the two lastest techs available from goody huts. I've popped Astronomy twice, if I'm not mistaken, but I've never gotten Music.

Astronomy is the most expensive tech possible to pop IIRC.

That is one hell of a tech to pop from a hut!

Purely by error, I was just testing the religion spread in Mercantilism so I gave myself a lot of technologies (up to medieval) and I walked into a hut...look what happened
