  • Help! Trying to find treasures in the Vikings scenario

I'm in the middle of playing the new Vikings scenario, and I cannot find any of the treasures. I've researched 5 treasure locations by this point. Two are in central Ireland, and one is in northern Ireland. I've had an army wandering around Ireland for most of the game, and I still have yet to see any treasure! Do they stay put, or do they move around? Are they in cities, or out in the open? If they are in cities, can you always see them, or do they only show up once you happen to take the right city? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In my experience, they appear in the open rather than cities. They should be reasonably easy to see. I don't know whether they move around. Once you've captured them, you need to get them back to your capital.

IIC: the unit is a man with a cart of gold

my belief is after holding the location after x number of turns, it shows up in the general area

Is the specific location marked in any way, or do you just have to hang out in the general area for a while?

Looking at the Python, the treasure unit is owned by the barbs and has a combat value of 0; so if someone else is closer to it than you when it appears, you won't get the treasure.

It also appears to be subject to fog of war like all normal units, so you'd either need lots of units with Sentry promotions blanketing the area annouced or buy the World Maps of those in the area (assuming their willing to sell it at all)

Myself, I think it's much easier to at some point turn off research and just hold cities up for ransom.

I've seen them appear next to other units and not be taken so there may be more to it than that.
Actually one was pinned behind a city, and I had to take the city to get the treasure.
Having scouts out is the best way to find them. It good if you can claim one of the horse resource so you can build a 2 movement unit.
One game I was able to capture 5 treasures, but you don't need to. Ransom is enough. Or a great economy.

You have to send your units marching through the countryside until you find it. The other nations never drag treasure off to their cities. Personally I find trying to get the treasures incredibly difficult because the enemy picks off one's units very quickly if they are wondering around inside their territory.

I tend only to capture and hold Scottish cities in this scenario because most of the others manage to work their way up to knights and longbowmen very quickly.

I took control of the iron and horses hoping it would let me build knights.
