Nuclear War!

We haven't had a "Will9's idea thread" in a while so hear it is.

I recently declared war on Mehmed II. About halfway through the war Mehmed fired a single nuke at my capital and it exploded. In my anger I launced about 15 nukes at him and 4 exploded. I then noticed that many countries had -3 or -4 against me for that. My thoughts are "I was simply responding to their Nuke."

The solution to this is simple. Make 2 degrees of war, regular war and nuclear war. When you declare nuclear war on a nation you will something like: -4 "You declared nuclear war on our friend" from all nations that are pleased toward that nation. Also, you get something like: -5 "You caused a nuclear threat to our lives!" from your people. If nuclear war is declared on you can fire nukes at your enemy without getting extra unhappiness or a decrease in relations.

Wow, you mean the AI actually launched at you? I've had some ticked off AI opponents before, but never had one launch a nuke at me.

Are you sure the negative modifiers on the other leaders weren't from the earlier launches?

This is a different war. I fired one nuke at them in the first, but they didn't have nukes yet. Later I decided that I needed time to regroup so I asked for peace. Just as I am approaching Istanbul they launch a massive counter attack and sent a Nuke at my capital. In my anger I fire tons of nukes at them. I reconize I have the blame in the first war, but I shouldn't have any blame in the second war.

Look how long it has taken many people in Europe to reconcile themselves with the germans, even though they have been "good" since 1946. Well as good as a german can be

If we made peace the nuclear would be over. I satarted another "convintional" war. The Ottomans then launch a nuke at me starting another nuclear war.

america has nuked japan couple of years ago

if japan starts a new war with america, and start nuking, and america returns ...

we would be angry with japan ...

Then again, if Japan dropped one nuke on America, and america could retalliate without repricussion, there wouldn't be much of Japan left to be mad at

On topic... Say you could declare "Nuclear war" would you get the negatives just for declaring nuclear war, or would you still need to fire the nukes?

You would declare nuclear war by lauching a nuke at someone. The only way it would end is when peace is declared.

Ahh gotcha, i thought there were two different diplomatic levels. For instance "I'm declaring (non-nuclear) war!" and "I'm declaring nuclear war!"

In hindsight that would be kind of stupid to let them know ahead of time that you were going to fire nukes at them...
