  • Favourite map type?

Just curious on what people like to play on.
I've been using Smart Map a lot recently, but started not to enjoy some games as they seemed very unbalanced even tho I try to set the options so everyone has a roughly equal start.
I thought I'd try Balanced, and I really like it!
Nice terrain with big deserts/plains/grass areas and mountain ranges - all quite realistic. Nice resource spread (not too many!). All in all it's become my fave.

Not tried some of the maps, maybe there's an even more fun one.

My favourite is fractal with the default resource setting. I enjoy not knowing what the map is like until I explore it. The possibility of not having some important resources is fun too, it encourages me to play differently (maybe building lots more chariots than I normally would for example) and go to war to get the resources I need.

I enjoy fractal as well, especially with lots of Civs on Aggressive. Lots of fun, early resource wars...

I'll have to try fractal then
Was gonna put a poll but since I'm posting from work I don't have a list of all the map types.

I always thought fractal was suppoed to be an unpredictable map type, but it is always 2 relatively large continents and some small islands. so, as a redult, I go with Archipelo (can't spell) with snaky continents. I find that to be pretty random. Also, huge world, low water level.

I tend to play on Islands.

Terra. It's the only way I've ever been able to get a Domination victory.

Tilted axis for OCC, pangaea for a (normal) game when I can be bothered to play for more than 2.5 hours (typical length of an OCC game to me).

For MP, I prefer to play team games, so Team Battleground and Inland Sea. Usually TBG for anc-medi, and inland sea for ren-future, though modern and future are great fun on TBG, with some added rules (like, modern era TBG would be no germany (Panzers are too powerful), no culture bombs (ditto) no commandos (3 commandos=1 dead opponent) and no nukes (because you can't get ecology fast enough and you jsut get swaped in fallout, which isn't fun)).
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

Large Fractal Rocky 13+ AI Marathon - pretty much all the time. . . though I use to play a lot of Terra. . .

my last 2 fractal starts haven't been good. I'll go with continents. Terra is kind of fun as well.

I like Lakes, so I don't have to deal with navies, but I have been playing fractal. A couple games ago I got a globe with an equatorial belt continent. It sure cut down on war! If you're on good terms with your immediate neighbors, somebody else could declare war on you and you'd never see him.

Huge, Fractal, 18 civs, Epic - Marathon is still much for me
