  • Sound problems only with Civ4

    Hello,

I've a somewhat annoying sound problem with my Civ4.

On my old computer (using on-board digital and analog sound of MSI K7N2 Delta), everything ran fine.

On my new computer, sound does not work properly. I'm again using on-board sound (ASUS P5B Deluxe), I've attached digital speakers at the digital out, and headphones at the line out.

MP3 (Winamp) and AVI (VLC) sound is ok, also the Civ4 intro sound (MPEG?), both from digital and line out, both independently and simultaneously. But in-game, there's no digital sound at all, and only very soft sound in my headphones.

I've already re-installed the game, re-installed DirectX, and re-installed my soundcard drivers. No change.

I've checked other games. In GalCiv2 for instance, everything is running as it should. Further I checked some older games (Europa Universalis 2 etc.), also there are no sound problems. Unfortunately I don't have - besides GalCiv2 - any newer games to test the sound.

    But I assume it's a Civ4 problem.

Any ideas? I'm no rookie, but on this I don't have a clue here.

    Thanks for all suggestions

As an addition: I've installed patch 1.61.

I had to add several updates on my system to get Civ4 to work without graphics flaws...

Should we assume you've confirmed the in-game Options/Audio settings, and also in the .ini files? If so, are there any other steps you've taken that you've left out? If not... do that.
