  • promotion stacking

Do promotions in a series show the total bonuses of that series or the bonuses added just from that promotion?

For instance is a city raider II unit enjoying just the city raider II city attack bonus of 25% when attacking cities or are they enjoying a whopping bonus of 45% (20% CR I plus 25% CRII when attacking cities?

I tried to set up a couple in game experiments to check but somehow the results seemed to contradict each other.

They are cumulative and so you'll get a 45% bonnus for a city raider 2 attacking a city.

You can see what modifirs there are in the combat when you hover over the unit you are to attack with the go-to function selected.

You can definetely see the battle odds by holding right click and hovering on the city in question. I do this all the time, you just have to make sure you either move the cursor back off the city, or left click to make sure you don't attack if the odds suck . It does seem like using the move-to button or holding Alt might be a bit safer though.

It works over any enemy. One thing that you need to beware, however, is that if you are not adjacent to the enemy and you happen to attack over a river, CIV IV will not take that river into account when giving you the battle odds. If the enemy unit is next to a river, you are better off moving up to your desired position of attack and then checking the battle odds a second time.

I find it easy to lure the AI to attack you over a river

I dont always destroy barb villages right away, its good for your score , not to mention promotions

And if you are after capture you may want to delay it.
