  • Is a Nintendo DS version of Civ 4 a good idea?

Following Platypus Rex suggestion, I am making a poll about this question.
    65
Yes. Even if it's a limited version, it is worth because we would be able to carry Civ anywhere.
    33.85%

No. The natural platform for Civ is a computer.

I'd rather play Banana for the DS

Well, Civ3 (1, really, they call it 3 for some obscure reason...) works fine on my mobile. So I don't see why not.

Poll needs to be multiple option.

    No santa-hat...

Maybe this post of mine, from Oliver's orriginal thread, would change your opinion.

I think it would probably sell decently.

Why on earth would you think so? This is still a turnbased game against real-time one. I've played Civ on emulated machines on handheld, and Civ2 on PSX. Worked splendidly, gameplay-wise.

And how do you imagine your opinion, that AOE2 doesn't work too well, would chance my opinion, that Civ4 might work well, when I state, that Civ1 worked well? They really have no connection whatsoever.

(Or is AOE for mobiles turnbased? Well, I've never let lack of mouse or keyboard stop me from enjoying games...)

Well, AOE for DS is turnbased.

Allright then. Still, I've played many Civ-variations on consoles, even handhelds, and they worked well, technically, and gameplay-wise.

There was rumours of a XBOX360 version a while back DS would be too sucky perhaps a next GEN console version would work well say either XBOX360 or PS3

I voted yes only because the first time I was ever exposed to a civ game was Civ2 for Super Nintendo (i think, it was loooong ago), but I was entranced with it enough to look into getting the computer game. If they could make a fun version of civ for a console 9 years ago, i would have to imagine that they could make it work for the DS.

I voted no, because I would never get the Nintendo DS out of my kid's hands to play it.

Maybe we should campain for it to be on the Wii. I can think of several hand motions to use with the controller when doing diplomacy. Also, one could easily emulate chucking a spear at that oncoming tank.

The problem with a DS version would be the number of computer civs would need to be much lower than what you can get on a PC. The graphics would also need to be toned down since Civ 4 really does render the game in 3D(even if there are only 3 viewing angles).

The game might do well, but wouldn't compare well to the PC or Mac versions.

Oh yes please, some other great games are coming to the DS like Sim City and Front Mission.

Civ 4 would complete my wish list.
