  • So few things to trade

    Hello everyone.
I just got warlords and I'm loving it.
I'm playing Shaka on a great plains map. The list of resources I have connected to my trade network is massive, sheep, pigs, horse, cows, deer, Fish!, Crabs! etc.

Strange thing is, none of the other civs have anything to trade with. Surely they must have something connected to their network. So why doesn't it pop up as an option to trade? even if they don't want to trade it.

Also, Ive had offers in previous games of trading something like pigs for cows. Both give 1 health and 1 bread so what's the advantage in swapping these resources?

    Thanks.

First off, ignore that +1 bread - it only applies to the tile the resource is on and then only if that tile is being worked by a city.

The +1 health comes into play for any city which is trade-connected to the resource tile. But the effects are not cumulative - if you have 2 pigs you only get +1 health, not +2. (Think of it as a health benefit for having a varied diet.) If you take 1 of those 2 pigs and trade it for 1 cow (which you don't have) then the cow gives you a +1 health and the traded pig costs you nothing.

The only time there would be a "no-benefit" trade is if you and your partner exchanged a pig and a cow which were singletons for each of you. If you traded your only pig for someone's doubleton cow, they would get +1 health and you would get nothing. Of course, you could probably get some gold per turn for such a trade. It also usually doesn't make sense to trade for something you already have, unless you want it to trade to a thrid party or want to try to get an attitude modifier based on trade. I don't recall ever seeing the AI offering something I already have, so the only way for this to be possible is for you to initiate the trade.

A particular type of resource also won't come up for trade if you already have access to it. E.g. since you already have crab, it won't come up as available for trade in the lists of the other leaders.

Ok. I guess it all makes sense now.
Seeing as though I have more land mass than everyone else and pretty much every type of resource nothings going to show up for trade.

Plat: Yep I'm connected (got the trade triangle)

          Thanks everyone
