  • How do I declare war if Isabella won't talk?

I was planning to go to war with Isabella, so when my good friend Alexander asked me to cancel my deals, I did so. But when I was ready to attack, she refused to talk to me and I couldn't move my troops into her territory. Presumably there's some other way to start a war, but I don't know what it is.

    So how's it done?

Don't you get a message asking you if you want to declare war if you try to move units into Spain's territory?

Though usually when you are not at war with an AI, that AI will always talk to you.

Unless there's a vassalage situation going on, that must be it. Is she someone else's vassal? In which case you really need to declare war on her master first.

Not when you just stopped trading with them, like the OP decribed.

Ah, indeed. Apparently at 4 in the morning I don't read so well

Nonetheless, why couldn't he declare war on her via walking into her territory? That part I don't really get. Though I rarely agree to cancel deals against other AIs, so maybe there's something there I just don't ever see

Yeah I rarely go to the hassle of clicking on the leaderhead. Walk in to her lands and click 'yes'.

When I tried to move into her territory, nothing happened; no message about decalring war; nothing. I didn't know about the alt click thing, and I didn't keep a save to try it on.

I'll try it if there is a next time.

Well if you have open borders you wouldn't get the war prompt. Though if she isn't talking to you I presume you aren't exactly best buddies!

                    I had the same problem.

I didn't have open borders. I'd cancelled all agreements a turn or two earlier. The game simply wouldn't let me move into her lands and didn't ask me if I wanted to declare war.

Is it possible that you are in the middle of a peace agreement with Isabella? If you agreed to 10 turns of peace in exchange for something, then you shouldn't be allowed to declare war before the 10 turns are done.

When peace was forced upon me by some strange diplomatic quirk, I was able to immediately redeclare war.

I'd never been at war with her. It seems to be a quirk that arises when you cancel agreements. I suspect it's a bug - at least as far as the declaration of war is concerned. I can't check the alt click approach at the moment. Probably that would work.
