  • Modifying the science rate

    Hi everyone.
Is there a simple way of globally modifying the speed at which science is obtained.
What I'm trying to ask is - can you change the cost of all scientific advances, so If i wanted everyone in the game to progress 10X faster or 10X slower...
    Thanks

Huh? You mean adjust game speed? Sure.. its an option in the menu.

Quick, Normal, Epic, Marathon, etc.. That effects the time it takes to build as well as the amount of research needed.

If you just want to play a longer game in general, do what rancid said.

If you want to ONLY change tech pace without changing other things, that is quite simple, in fact. In the XML, in /assets/xml/gameinfo/Civ4GameSpeedInfo, for the Era you play at edit the value next to "iResearchPercent". The number there is relative to normal number of beakers required for any given tech. Bigger is better; if you wanted to multiply it by 10 (a HUGE amount) change it from 100 to 1000.

      Values per era:
      Marathon - 300
      Epic - 150
      Normal - 100
      Quick - 67

This file can also affect build costs, unit costs, etc., etc.

To edit XML by the way just open the XML file in Notepad, or some other text editor. Don't open it in Internet Explorer, that won't work.
