I wasn't disappointed, but it would be nice to flesh out the navy.
It would also be nice to have the ability to move galleys and triremes away from coastal squares if you wanted to risk losing them ala Civ2.

I'm not disappointed. It may not have added a lot to the game, but what it did is good. Vassals states alone are a great addition, it really changes the dynamics. It makes it very interesting when you're battling some civ to the bitter end and all of a sudden he joins up with a more powerful civ that has yet another vassal or two in tow.

That just happened to me in my last game. I was down to the last Viking city when he signed up with Hannibal, who also had Elizabeth and the Incans as vassals. All of them where on my border so it got really lively there for awhile.

Same here. I like Great Generals, and some of the new buildings are awesome! Vassals are a great addition indeed.

I would like to see another terrain improvement: cannals. Maybe in the next XP?

          definately needs more naval units.

My main disappointment was the fact there were only 3 new units for the main game.

How do you get more than one unit to join the Great General? I only tried it once, but I got just one cavalry to join him. Isn't it supposed to be three or more?

You're thinking of Civ 3's Armies, those don't exist in Civ 4. Only one unit gets attached to a Great General.

you can get more than one unit to get the XP bonus if they are in the same square as the great general when they join. The XP bonus is split I believe.

But I miss civ3's armies. As overpowered as they were.

Especially since the AI never figured out how to use them. I ended up having my Palace generate them after a certain number of turns so the AI would at least have some, but they never used them to their best potential. Usually they would just turtle them in it's capital and not use them offensively. Or it wouldn't fill them up properly. I finally had to make it so they only held one unit, but had the hitpoints of 3, which forced the AI to use them better. And I only allowed certain units within them.

lack of navy seems to be a common thread in the series

I thought it was a good update. I am so used to them now that I can't really remember what it was like without Unique buildings and Vassals. Civ specific city graphics are good too.

Some nice new wonders, Warlords were a nice novelty, some nice new leaders. Wang Kon in particular makes me laugh every time I read his name. And that's without me even playing the Scenarios...

I'm not sure what people would expect out of an XP if they aren't satisfied with the amount of stuff in Warlords.

Warlords was a good xp in my book. I actually *gasp* played and enjoyed some of the scenarios.

I agree that the navies could be better.

The only thing I miss is airbases.

In my view it's fine, but the world would not have been a much emptier place without it.

Try Snafusmith's modern warfare mod. I think it adds more modern naval ships.

More Navies! WTF? Naval Warfare is severly lacking in the entire CIV series, especially when you consider the impact they actually had on history.

I also think its retarded you can't do any real exploration or colonization until you get Astronomy because half the game is over by that point. IMO, it should be like Civ III (II?) where you could move the units into sea squares but each turn they remained there, it would be a % chance of sinking.

Back on topic.. Warlords was an amazing xp, IMO. Completely and totally changed the entire game, the majority of the strategies and slingshots have been undermined, and the UB's have made individual civilizations far more important in terms of strategy than they ever were before.

(IE: Pre-Warlords you could essentially use the same starting strat regardless of your civ. Warlords changed that)

Definately a great improvement, far better than I had ever expected when I bought it.
