  • I Lost My CD

I lost my CD and I am very upset.

Here's my question: If I buy the warlords pack, will my computer want that cd, or the old one I can't find?

    Thanks!

It will want the Warlords CD then.

The problem with that is that you'll still need the original Civ4 CD if ever need to reinstall

Hopefully I won't need to re-install. Or maybe it will show up by then.

        Thanks!

You'll still need the civ4 CD if you want to play vanilla civ. You need the Warlords disk in to play Warlords and the Vanilla disk in to play Vanilla. Might be an issue for you if you are in any vanilla games, or want to join any vanilla games online.

My advice is get Warlords, install it, then keep the cd in a safe place.

              Er, no.

(And that's all I have to say on that subject...)

This is certainly not meant in any negative way toward the OP or anybody else, but I've never understood how/why people so easily lose a game they paid $50 for. If I'm dumping that kind of money on a small piece of plastic (especially if it's Civ), I'm going to make sure nothing happens to it

Perhaps they have a mother or wife who likes to keep order, and doesn't see that there is an order in the mess.

Well, I had that, four times! Er, I mean wives, not mothers...

Thanks for all the advice. I found the cd, after three days of looking. It's not that I have a wife that likes to keep order -- it's that I have a husband who doesn't. The book of cds was under one of our couches. Had been there for weeks, by the amount of dust. I guess I need to play more often!

                        Indeed it does.

The problem I have with CD's is my kids. They play their games and take mine out. I found my original Civ 4 cd behind my 5-year old's bed once. I also play on three different computers at various times.

Please don't flame me, I am certainly NOT insinuating any type of improprietus redistribution BUT...

I have a program that allows me to make a backup of my application disks and store them on my hard drive. When I buy a new game or program this is the first thing I do, even before installing it to run.

Now if I ever lose or damage a program's disk, I can create a new one for myself to use as a replacement. With 3 children under 5yrs old & a wife that doesn't know what is important on my desk and what is not... this has been a great solution for me!

I'll obviously not say what application I use or give instructions on backing up or copying programs BUT when used responsibly as a means to backup (and for that purpse ONLY!) important discs, this works!
"Too err is human... uhm, did I spell 'err' correctly?"

Actually, it's fully legal to create a backup copy on a real CD. I would even say that it's more convenient than backing it up on your hard drive.

At any rate, most jurisdictions do allow the creation of one backup copy of a product you legally own, and that takes legal precedence over the EULA, which may explicitly forbid the copying (although some EULAs don't bother and also explicitly allow the creation of a backup copy).
