    OK-
So, I've not had any probs running CivIV on my PC.
I've got XP on a Gateway w/ 2G mem and it's just been fine.

Today, I went to play a game and double-clicking the desktop icon didn't start the game.

I tried manually starting from the start menu, putting the CD into a different drive, cleaning it, etc, etc, etc...

Finally, I said screw it and decided to uninstall and re-install.

However, even though I've uninstalled via the control panel (several times), the actual title of the game never deletes from the Add/Remove SW program. In fact, now when I attempt to do so, I get an error dialogue that states that setup.exe has encountered an error and is closing.
I've even done a file search for "civilization," "meier's", etc, and deleted anything to do with the game and when I try to re-install I still get an error that says that I can't install the game because I'm attempting to load an earlier version than what is already loaded.

Remember, I've deleted everything I can find related to the game, so what's still loaded that I can't find, and why can't I delete via Add/Delete SW?

Personally, what I'd do from here is go into the registry and delete any reference to Civ4 in there, but I will not recommend that to random people over the internet. You can do a lot of damage to your computer if you edit the registry without knowing what you're doing.

Don't know what I did that fixed it, but after installing just about every add-on program (ICQ, CCleaner, No-Ads, etc) I had, I was finally able to load the damn thing again...

In fact, I'm playing right now.
