Warlord Expansion Worth Getting?

Back & forth for the last week I've been thinking of getting the Warlord expansion.

Are the extra features worth the $20-30?

I'd say yes. And I'm not a warmongerer, which is the XP's prime focus.

It was definitely worth it for me. Great Generals, vassal states and unique buildings are great.

Also it's pretty cheap, I spend several times that on a night out and Warlords doesn't leave me with a hangover and a host of embarrassing memories!

Absolutely, definitely, positively... Yes. Great features, great concepts (Great Generals are awesome, and the new buildings are great!), great gameplay, great units, great new treats, great everything. Best game ever!

In a word - yes!

Great Generals are good, trebuchets are even better!

The unique buildings add more depth to the civ's and makes you initial choice more interesting.

I think yes too because of the above reasons and the following:

(1) All future patches will require warlords. So, if you are having any problems with 1.61, then you are stuck with them.

(2) the AI is a lot better then it was in regular CIV IV, granted blake did a lot of that and I think he has a lot of improvements that are applicable to regular CIV IV too.

(3) it will be harder and harder to find others without Warlords. notice Warlords does not have its own thread on this board anymore....

I finally broke down and bought it a week ago. I like it a lot. Make sure you download and install Blake's AI fixes to make it even better.

Besides, Warlords look badass during battle.

I'd say no in terms of gameplay, and yes for the reasons sparkyal mentioned.

By the way Chicagophil, there are a bunch of Chicagoans on these boards ... myself, Ming, Rah, and a host of others. Rah plays saturday night MP games (that someday i'll play one of)

I'd say yes, for the improvements in the Ai alone. It manages it's economy a lot better now, it's really a struggle for any builder-types out there. The Warfare aspect has been buffed up and unfortunately the Ai still sucks at it, however Blake has been busy so hopefully he can tweak how the Ai wages war and maybe Firaxis will take it onboard like they did in the recent patch.

Get Warlords, then install the latest patch. There's been a number of improvements to the AI in it that make it much more of a challenge. You may even have to drop your playing level down a notch.
