  • Ability to Watch the AI Possible?

One of the things I enjoyed with Civ 3 that I miss in Civ 4 was the ability to be able to watch the AI as they moved about, built their cities, and made war against each other, without me getting involved.

The last time I asked if there was a way for me to be able to watch the AI in this fashion with Civ 4, it was not possible to do so. This was at the time that Warlords was going to come out.

I was wondering if during this time that I've been absent from the community if someone has found a way to be able to watch the AI the way it was possible with Civ 3?

Thanks for any information on this subject.

You could go into the world builder and give yourself a bunch of spies and put them all over the AI. Then turn on "watch friendly moves" or whatever the option is. Until the AI starts getting spies they should have any knowledge that you're there.

I wonder if they still "patrol"....
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

Yes, though (in my observation) not as much as in Civ3.

Patrol: the movement of units close to borders to give the impression that the AI is on the alert for enemy attacks.

In Civ4, the movement is totally superfluous because (at least the human) can spot units anywhere within sight of its borders. Also, the AI's patrolling with a 2-move unit will often run multiple times in a circle.

The only use that I can perceive to AI patrols is that it may confuse the player as to AI army strength and dispositions.

How did you watch the AI in Civ III?

Don't know. I used to do it in Civ 2. Would be interesting.

I seem to recall, you could play as "Debug"... A bit hazy on that...

You went into the world builder, clicked "debug" mode, also "reveal entire map", and you could then watch the AI move, build, and battle with each other.

Unfortunately in Civ 4, there's no way to actually watch the AI.
