Top five cities in Demographics.

Does anyone know the calculations used to determine the top five cities?

I only ask because in my last game using the new warlords patch I had the following happen.

The top city was founded in 440bc and had a population of 9 and no wonders.

In second place a city founded in 4000bc with a population of 25 and 3 wonders.

Third place a city founded in 4000bc, a population of 12 and six wonders.

IMO the top city should not be there.

Culture plays a very large role. Once I had a city, Rome, with 20 people and three wonders, but the top city, Paris, had 12 people and three wonders. The culture of Paris was much higher. It took me alot of time to get Romes culture high enough to take first place. Also, Paris was a holy city which I have known to play a large role.

Culture is the answer - it has the highest culture.

I can only assume it (the AI) has used Great Artists as culture bombs.

The City gets +4000 culture points when using a Great Artist.

Is the 4000 cp map-size or game-speed dependent? In huge-marathon games a great artist's great work is 12,000 culture.

Game speed. Marathon is three times longer than normal.

4000*3 = 12000

Game speed dependent:

At quick: 2670 culture
At normal: 4000 culture
At epic: 6000 culture
At Marathon: 12000 culture

Is it culture? I thought it was based on wonders. Sometimes I try to have all top 5 cities be mine. I usually only can manage that if I conquer everyone else though.

Well wonders do give you extra culture if you build them.

I'm pretty sure it is combination of population, wonders, culture, and religon.

it may be a mixture, but culture has the overall say. I recently won a game where the top 2 cities were mine and had no wonders built in them.

come to think of it, it probably is culture. It usually happens to be capitols, or the second created city of a civilization that is on there.

I am fairly sure that culture is 100% of the Top Five cities.

You can easily get a huge culture score without (nearly) any wonders or culture bombs. I just won a game by culture victory, in which my third city built only 2 wonders and 2 national wonders, and had only one culture bomb (and I would have won five turns later without that culture bomb).
