  • Damn You Blake!

So now I'm down to battling back and forth on Warlord difficulty.

    Thanks ALOT!

'Let's fix the AI so the game is actually a challenge...'

    DAMN YOU!!!

The AI is friggin building the ORACLE before anything else now. Somebody completed it before 800BC. And my neighbor, Washington, built the Great Wall shortly after that so now I've got armies of Barbarian axemen and archers invading my cities every three turns because they are funneled towards me!

On the bright side, my Jaguars who are running around doing Barb defense have five and six promotions from all the combat they've encountered. But it makes it damn difficult to build an army when you have to worry about defense, and you're already third or fourth place because the AI is so much better they're outteching the hell out of you!

The only reason I'm still alive is because I put a priority on alphabet and currency so now I can trade with the AI for techs and money, so my bankroll's on swole.

    I'm sorry .

Heh my AI just beat me to the Oracle at 1080BC, I was Feudalism slingshotting and the Writing and the Oracle were both going to complete on 1040BC.

To add insult to injury the Colossus goes in 825BC .

      I am very interested.

Already printed the "usage" instrutions and now amassing courage

to go to my first challenge: to install the improvement.

      What happen if I fail?

In this event, must I uninstall Warlords, then reinstall it and the

      patch?

      My thanks in advance.

      Best regards,

Not sure what you mean fed1943 but the lastest patch already include most of Blake's modifications to the AI so no further moding is needed.

          Thanks, so I'm confused.

I thought the patch had not most of Blake modifications.

          All is good,then.

          Best regards,

The patch contains many of Blake's modifications. Basicly all the ones that were considered well-tested enough by the time the patch was released.

But Blake's work is an on-going process. He already released a new version and no doubt he'll release more and more new versions, which will deviate more and more from the original (2.08) version.

As to fed1943's question: I don't know. I don't think so, but I'm not sure.

Blake, I really have to say congratulations on making an AI which is competant economically The Prince level AI is a good competitor now and doesn't fold like a house of cards

I hope that Firaxis continues to lay a framework that allows this amount of modability of their games.

Depends if you backup your old dll file or extract it into the mods folder and run it as a mod, fed1943. Then you should be fine. But I havnt had any problems with Blakes AI other than i had to move down one level of difficulty again.

That's what I feared: too hard for me to do it, as I know nothing of

                  computers.

Well, I shall wait a step by step lesson or the program arrives to the

point "just click here and the thing gets done".

About the patched AI: indeed, finer play.

                  Best regards,

                    Smooth sailing so far.

I installed the patch Friday evening after learning that it was available. After the installation, I moved down a notch to Prince in anticipation of a tougher fight (and only played Huayna so far to cope with the raging barbs setting).

No problem in my first game and I got my highest score ever at close to 77K. I got the Oracle without much of a problem and used it for CoL.

I could get the Oracle in my second game also, after moving back up to Monarch. This time I used it for Theology since it cost more beaker (greedy).

In both games, due to the raging barbs, I don't expand much at the beginning, so I founded two religions in my capital in both cases. In both games, I started out pretty much by building Stonehenge first.

In my second game, I got the tech that allows Organized Religion before building the Oracle. Combining with Industrious, it gives 75% hammer increase, almost as good as having Stone AND Marble without having to research Masonry (but I did get the Pyramid as well ).

My one and only problem so far is related to the GGs. They don't pop up in the capital all the time (no big deal), and seem to move my palace to where they pop up once (which killed my Bureaucracy civic and forced me to rebuild my palace back at the original location after some unknown number of turns where I did not notice the problem. Yuk !!).

I just tested this, and it didn't work for me. My palace didn't change. Are you sure nothing else happened?

I was unable to find any pattern in the location where the GG spawns either. It does not seem to be culture-related.

                          [edit]
The imperialisti and GW bonus seem to be multiplicative by the way, rather surprisingly. My axeman got 3 exp for a battle, but my great general points increased with 12. Playing as cyrus with the GW build (well, edited into the city :P)

It worked as expected about half the time in the patch. My first GG was spawned in the capital.

The second one was in the Aztec capital (by that time I have already eliminated both the Japanese and the Aztec). I didn't notice whether the Aztec capital has been turned into my capital or not and I thought it was rather strange that the GG was there instead of my capital but it didn't hurt so I ignored it.

The third one popped up in Tokyo. That was when I noticed that Tokyo had a star. It took me half a minute staring at that star before it dawned on me that my capital probably moved without my knowledge and, sure enough, my capital was no longer my capital. I swore and stopped building the Staue of Liberty to bring my capital back.

That made me wonder if my capital got moved before (to the Aztec capital) as well but then when my fourth (or maybe fifth) GG popped up it was also in another city (one of mine, I think). This time the capital did not move.

So maybe the bug happens only when you have already taken several civs and have more than one capitals under your control . Then it will definitely spawn the GGs in different cities (happened to me 3 times in one game). However, it only moved my capital once (or twice since I did not know what happened with the spawn at the Aztec capital).

1700BC Oracle build is early for the AI then ? (Emp/Large world/13 civ). I can never seem to get it any more :-\.

About the capital thing - when you guys say "stars", you are aware of the effects of Forbidden Palace/Versailles, right? Both place a little silver star by the city they are built in (next to the religions etc) but do not turn the population circle into a star, as for your capital. Just to make sure there is no confusion going on here.
