  • help, my city doesn't grow!

    Hi everybody!

got a littl problem over here..
Second time a play this wonderfull game (what a time absorbing experience, WOW), this time on monarch, it all wents well, survived a couple of wars, but this is still bugging me...

My 2nd city got a population of 5 and more than enough to eat, but when the food indicator comes to the max food capacity the city just won't grow..

let's say that this town was on it's own until 1500 AD. It was separated from me capital, but there was a road attached. The only thing was that there were other nation's territory in between (is that a prob?).
After 1500 AD all my territiry is connected.

so what can it be, cause cultural stuff is present, farms all over the place
cities only need food to grow, right..

thanks in behalf of the English empire

You have the "No Growth" button turned on in the governor section (city management menu, just to the left of the minimap in the city screen). The lower right button.

Unless you are building a settler or worker, at which times all food surplus is devoted to building that unit.

Hmm, if you have a nearly-full food bar while building a settler and reduce the size of the city (say by drafting) so that the food bar is full, will the city grow?

CT: You mean after the settler is built, but the No Growth is still set?
No, No Growth means the city will not be allowed to grow. Especially if you were already at the happiness cap and you whipped or drafted, that is what you want. Otherwise, it is up to you to turn off the No Growth.

When my happiness cap has increased due to acquiring additional happiness resources (or civics change), I particularly need to keep a lookout for those No Growth settings.

No growth means the city will never grow.

Training a worker or settler simply means that food is converted to hammers, if you fill the food bar somehow (ie by slavery, draft, avoid growth) then the city will grow despite training a worker/setter.
