I like the changes and am glad the patch is out! There were a few issues that I noticed though.

The first and definite bug, is that I was at war with the Japanese and a Japanese spearman was in one square in the first turn and then in the second turn it was on another square (both in my territory) while there was a forested hill between the squares, not even a road on it!

The second may be a change, but there was a river with several desert tiles beside it and they were desert and not floodplains. And there had never been a raised city there.

The third is something that I've never seen before but heard about. A barb city above me build Stonehenge. I thought that had been taken out by the patch but I haven't seen it in many, many hours of CIV, other than in my first game with the patch!

Alexman - what's the difference between the 50 something MB patch and the 60 something MB patch that are both floating around on the net?

      Two different versions?

The 59 MB version is wrong version that was accidentally distributed by some websites. It's an old version that's missing stuff, you'll want to download the ~64 MB version instead.

          Locutus,

I had heard the only difference is the 59 MB patch allows you to play Civ IV without using your CD? Is this true?

          Cheers

I downloaded the zip file with both the protected and non-protected patches inside. I installed the non-protected and it worked. I then noticed the issues I mentioned above and (suspecting that something was up) downloaded the (protected) patch from this site, which was exactly the same size as the protected that I already had so probably the same. I installed the protected version and haven't noticed any issues. Maybe there's more differences than just the protection, or maybe I just got lucky in my new game.

They should not be of same size.
Early one is 59MB while proper one is around 65MB.

It's definitely forthcoming, but it may be a few days. That's the best answer I can give you, sorry.

Just out of interest; does the SDK compile with MSVC++ 2005 meanwhile? If I recall correct, there was a problem with Boost back when I tried first.

Probably a silly question, but in regards to MP games, if one of the players doesn't have the latest patch, will there be problems? And of course, what if the host doesn't have the patch, and other players do?
                    Keep on Civin'

If you want an admin password, open the save with v2.00, save the game after clearing the password, then upgrade to 2.08, then load the game, then set the password again, then pass on the save.
I try to load my PBEM game either with my civ or my admin password, clear it (with the Alt+D keys operation), save it and reload into the 2.08 version, but it don't work in both cases ! (Same warning obtained by Sir Ralph, and return to the desktop).

Sorry for the stupid question, but how do I clear and reset the admin password ?

Go to game options.. it will ask for an admin password..
after entering the password you should get a window with game name and admin password boxes.. delete the stuff in the admin password box.. and then save

The patch info says Creative leaders get cheap Libraries. Does anyone have exact details? Double production speed? 60 hammers instead of 90 (normal speed)?

                            HUGE Slowdowns

I haven't seen a thread on it here, so I'll just add to this one.

I read about people having similar problems on CF, but haven't heard a peep about it here.

Since installing the patch, my computer starts freezing up before 1AD! Not slow downs or graphical glitches, but it starts taking forever between turns.

I timed it last night and it was taking 5-7 minutes PER TURN.

Has anybody else encountered this problem? Now, I know I have a computer that's 3 years old (2.4c, 512, 6800nu), and I'm playing on Huge maps with the standard amount of AI players, but I never encountered slow downs like this until late.. late... late game prior to the patch and even then the slow downs were at worse 3 minutes long.

They happen much earlier in the game now and have doubled in length!

Perhaps Blake's AI made the game a bit slower.

But honestly my computer isn't that much faster (AMD 3000+) but I've never seen anything remotely approaching such slowness.

                                Thanks for the reply, Diadem.

The problem isn't that the game is 'a bit' slower, the problem is the game is slower by a huge order of magnitude! The time it used to take to slow down has been halved (at least) and when it does slow down, the time it takes has been doubled!

It's a huge difference, not just a minor one. The game is completely unplayable at this point. I started two games last night with large maps (and the standard number of AI) as opposed to huge maps (and the standard number of AI), but wasn't able to tell anything because the random continents game I choose kept putting me all by myself.

The freezing definately has to do with the AI, it always has. The more Civ's you "discover" , the slower the game gets. Which is rather odd, because doesn't the computer still have to calculate their moves, etc.. even if you haven't met them yet?

Before the patch I was playing Huge maps and adding 2 or 3 additional AI players , and wouldn't really face a slowdown until the Industrial Age when I had met all the other Civs and even then, the slow down was half as long as it is now!

After the patch, I meet 5 other Civs and the game takes 5-7 minutes per TURN!

I'm guessing this problem (like all the Civ problems) can be solved with more ram, but I'd really like to wait to just buy a whole new system and dump this AGP based one.

How much ram do you have, Diadem?
