  • A very stupid Monty

In a game I played, Monty repeatably attacked me. Late in one game I noticed he had a stack of units stationed in the Vikings city, a civ we were both friendly with. After they had been their at least 4 turns for some unknown reason I decided to attack them. Monty had about 5 tanks and 5 cannons there. I had a number of tanks with City Raider x3, and I found I got the CR bonus of 60% in the attack, while he got no defence bonuses as it was not his city. So it was a very easy wipeout of a valuable stack of Monty's.
He had stationed his units in a location that for him had defensive negatives, basically asking for them to be killed. It was not possible for him to choose a worse spot, Stupid Monty.

Tanks don't get defensive bonuses at all, do they?

Now, that does bring up another thing I consider to be a problem. Last night, I'd gotten involved in a war in order to try and keep the Koreans from being wiped out. They'd been attacked by the Japanese, then the Russians, and now the Zulu, although they had made peace with the Japanese. They were down to their last legs - one final city, but I'd gifted them with enough infantry to hold off the assault. I came in and took one of their other cities from the Zulu. I was at war with the Zulu, but not the Russians. When I captured the city, the game gave me three options: occupy the city, raze the city, or return the city to the Koreans. I chose the third. Even though I had troops sitting in the city, the Russians in the between turn move took it from me without a fight. Because they weren't at war with me, they were able to move in and take the city. I think it should have at least asked me if I would prevent them from taking it, even if that would have put me at war with Stalin.

I'd put this down as a blunder. You gave the city away so lose all rights to control who goes in or out.

You could always have gifted them the city to them at a later stage.

Done that before. If you do, they have to start from scratch, culturally speaking. If you restore it to them when you conquer it, all their culture comes back instantly.

The moral of this story: Stalin is evil.
